7th Grade Freeland SportsZone Field Trip | April 9, 2024
We have planned a field trip to the Freeland SportsZone for our 7th grade students on Tuesday, April 9. The purpose of the field trip is to give our 7th grade students an up-close experience to Health and Wellness on a day where our 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT in our building. The 7th grade students will be chaperoned by the 7th grade team of teachers. Buses will leave FMS at 9:00 am and return at 2:00 pm. Please have your student bring a water bottle, dress in active wear, and wear closed toed shoes.
Please complete the form regardless of whether or not your student can attend. We want to account for all of our 7th graders. If you have more than one child in 7th grade, please complete a form for EACH child. We requested that parents completed this form no later than Friday, March 22, 2024 but there are still many parents who have not filled this out as of today. We would like to get a solid headcount for lunches and buses.
Loons Game at Dow Diamond Field Trip | May 7, 2024
We are excited to announce that the entire middle school will be able to attend a Loons game at Dow Diamond on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The cost of this trip will be $11 and that will include a ticket to the game, transportation, and a school provided sack lunch. There will be concessions available at the ballpark for students who are interested in purchasing those as well.
Here is the permission slip for the event: Dow Diamond Permission Slip
We realize that permission slips and the $11 admission were due the main office by Friday, March 22, 2024 and we did not have school on that date. We have extended the deadline to Friday, April 5 to turn in this information. If you have any questions or have financial concerns, please contact Mrs. Thunberg or Mrs. Glazier.
We would appreciate donations from any families who are willing to help a student who is having financial difficulties for this event. You can cover the $11 cost for a student in need in the main office at FMS and we will make sure that all of our students are able to attend this field trip.

Solar Eclipse Information | April 8, 2024
As the solar eclipse approaches on April 8, 2024, we want to ensure everyone enjoys this event safely. During the afternoon hours, with the max coverage expected at approximately 3:10 p.m., the moon will align with the sun, offering a total solar eclipse. Michigan's eclipse coverage will range from 75% in the northwest Upper Peninsula to a small area in the southeast Lower Peninsula experiencing totality (100%). Adults and children alike will want to "look up" to see this exciting scientific occurrence! While experiencing this phenomenon, it’s important to safeguard our eyes. Directly gazing at the sun, even during an eclipse, can lead to serious eye damage. Therefore, we kindly urge everyone, especially our students, to prioritize safety during this event. Looking directly into a solar eclipse for any amount of time can be damaging to the human eye, so top priority is to prepare for eye safety.
The following resources can be used to prepare everyone for a safe and exciting learning experience:
Eye Safety During a Total Solar Eclipse (NASA)
Where to Get Solar Eclipse Glasses (America Academy of Ophthalmology)
Solar Eclipse Observer’s Guides and Handouts (NSTA)
Live NASA Broadcast of 2024 Total Solar Eclipse (YouTube)
Please take a moment to discuss with your children the significance of not looking directly at the sun without proper eye protection. With our students departing from school during this time frame, whether by vehicle, bus, or on foot, it’s crucial for them to exercise caution and remain vigilant. Your attention to this matter is deeply appreciated, and we hope everyone experiences a safe viewing of the solar eclipse.
