Principal's Corner
A note from our Principal
West Side Families,
And down the stretch they come!!! I'm not big into horse races, but I do love when the race announcer shouts that out with only a handful of lengths left. It means all contestants are in a fierce sprint to the finish line. With only a handful of days left in this school year, I can safely say we are sprinting as fast as we possibly can metaphorically. The 4th graders have just completed their WY-TOPP testing for the state, and the 5th graders only have one more to go. We still have our FastBridge assessments and our Benchmark Assessment System to measure every student's growth from the start of the year to the end of the year. In between all of those assessments, we still need to make sure we give our students every opportunity to reach proficiency in every one of our district standards. Clearly, we have some work to do these last couple of weeks, but then we get to celebrate with some fun learning opportunities.
The 4th graders are taking field trips to the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, a ranch near Hyattville, and our own Washakie Museum for History Days. The 5th graders are watching Where the Red Fern Grows at the Washakie Theater, and they are also having a couple of reward opportunities for meeting AR goals and other growth benchmarks. We will finish up our last week of school with our 4th quarter awards assembly, our West Side Talent Show, and on the last day of school, we'll get to experience the carnival atmosphere of Wild West Days. Of course, once June starts, we'll have four weeks of West Side Summer School, which is all about fun learning opportunities in a summer-camp style.
As you can see, we have a lot of fun learning opportunities coming up in the last couple of weeks. We sure hope your students can be here for all of it!

Battle of the Books Competition Winners
In an epic battle and closely fought contest, the Pickley Popsicles bested the Heifers for this year's Battle of the Books competition. Each qualifying team was put to the test by answering specific questions regarding a 12-book list. The students had to know the books inside and out as well as the book title and author to earn the maximum amount of points. We are looking forward to seeing next year's teams battle it out!

TO: All PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF STUDENT(S) THAT ARE ELEVEN OR TWELVE YEARS OLD.
The Wyoming Health Department is now aligned with the ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices). New guidelines state if your child has turned eleven or twelve they are ready to receive their booster Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, pertussis) immunization. Please be advised that your child needs to have their Tdap booster before their 13th birthday to be in compliance with the new Wyoming law.
Please call your medical provider or Washakie County Public Health Office at 347-3278 to schedule an appointment for this immunization.
If you have any questions please contact the school nurse.

All School Art Show
Elementary Art Exhibit
This school year our elementary students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, have worked their way through the elements of art. We have tackled each element through a variety of mediums and projects. The elements of art that have inspired our projects include color, shape, value, line, texture, form and space. We are so excited to share these pieces with you through the "All School Art Show" from May 9th- 20th at the Washakie Museum. We hope you can come and see these amazing artworks that we have made throughout the school year and marvel at their artistic creations.

4th Grade: Responsibility and Conflict Resolution
Parents,
As we begin to wind down the school year, but life still remains crazy busy, please make time daily to talk with your kiddos, play games with them, let them know you care and have time for them. Leave them special notes in their room or in their lunch boxes, eat dinner together, or make a fort and watch a movie. Spending time with your kids is a great stress reliever for them.
Other fun ideas:
Backwards meal (eat things upside down/backwards, wear clothes backwards, eat under the table)
Rude night (have a fun meal with "no manners")
Mr. Freeze Game (while eating a meal, one person is Mr. Freeze and whenever they freeze, everyone else has to as well. Last person to freeze pays a fun forfeit and then it's their turn to be Mr. Freeze)
Do a Dance party, have a nerf war, play video games together, paint nails, play the ABC game or travel bingo when traveling in the car.
