Parent Weekly
Welcome to the IDEA Pflugerville Academy Parent Weekly newsletter! The Parent Weekly is one of the key communication vehicles we use to accomplish our goal. Please read the newsletter for important information. If you have any questions, please contact the front office (512) 822-4700. Office hours are from 7:30-4:30pm.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
- Set a regular bed time and morning routine
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before
- Find out what day school starts and make sure your child has the required shots
- Introduce your child to her teachers and classmates before school starts to help her transition
- Don’t let your child stay home unless he or she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited about learning
- Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent
- Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
*** If your child is visibly sick or contagious, keep them home so that they do not get other students sick

A Note From the Nurse
November is National Diabetes Month. It's important to remember that Diabetes is a preventable condition. It's especially important to make diabetes prevention a priority if you're at an increased risk of diabetes, like if you have a family history or are overweight. Follow-up with your doctor and get healthy!
Type 2 Diabetes is a preventable disease, here are 5 things you can do to keep your risk low:
1. Get more physical activity
2. Eat more fiber
3. Go for whole grains
4. Lose any extra weight
5. Skip fad diets and make lifelong, healthier changes
More than 1 in 3 American adults have prediabetes and are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, a serious health condition that is entirely preventable. See you doctor today if you're ready to make some healthy changes.
Did you know that you can develop type 2 diabetes without any family history?
Make sure your family stays healthy by exercising regularly together, choosing lean & low-fat foods, maintaining healthy weights, and watching your portion sizes.
Diabetes can be avoided, keep your family healthy!

Jackets: Scholars are allowed to wear IDEA jackets inside our building. If non-IDEA jackets are brought to school, they will only be allowed to be worn outside during recess/PE.
Long Sleeve shirts: BLACK or WHITE long sleeve shirts may be worn under the IDEA polo shirt.
Black Belt: A black belt should be worn to school everyday as part of the IDEA uniform policy. The exception is if he/she does not have belt loops on their pants or skirts, a belt is not required.
Black Shoes: Shoes should be safe for your child to run and play in at recess and during PE. Shoes must be black.
An "out of uniform" dojo ding will be given in the mornings as the homeroom teacher checks your child's uniform.
Thank you so much for your support with our high expectations. Please reach out to the front office regarding our uniform policy if you have any questions or your child's Homeroom teacher.
