MARCH NEWSLETTER
MARCH 1, 2024
February has been an eventful month at the middle school. We started the month with a grade 5 band/chorus concert, honor roll ceremonies, the NJHS induction, and the RMS drama club performance of Seussical Jr. We ended the month on Leap Day with Influential Icon Day highlighting the important work of people of color throughout history. What a busy and exciting month!
Early in the month, a group of 7th and 8th grade students had the opportunity to collaborate with Mr. Conklin, RHS wood shop teacher, to create interactive learning tables (see photo above) for RMS classrooms. This project was spearheaded by RMS special education teacher Janie Wood and funded through the generous support of the Rockland Education Foundation.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT COUNCIL
SGC hosted a grades 5/6 social on February 28 (see photos above). Students had a blast dancing and having treats from an ice cream truck! Thanks to the many teachers who volunteered their time to chaperone the event!
During the month of March, the student council will be selling candy grams during all Lunches. "Lucky Grams" will be sold for $1 and will be delivered to students' homeroom teachers. Sales will begin March 4th and will end March 13th.
FROM THE STUDENT SUPPORT STAFF
All 8th grade students will be participating in the Course Selection Process with high school guidance counselors. Information will be sent home from the high school in the coming weeks.

PCC, Project Contemporary Competitiveness, is an academically based leadership program for students currently in grades 7-10. Students will have the opportunity to live at Stonehill College during the week and spend the summer learning and leading with students from across Massachusetts. All students get to live in the dorm Monday through Friday with a roommate.
FROM BAND/CHORUS
Calling all Bulldogs! Rogers Middle School will be taking over the Providence Bruins on Saturday April 6! RMS band and chorus have been given the opportunity to perform at the game, and ALL students are encouraged to come with their family! It is also the Providence Bruins Star Wars night, which is sure to add some fun and excitement to the game!
On top of discounted tickets, students who use the school's link will also get a free hat, while supporting the music department's fundraiser! Tickets to the game can be purchased through the following link:
https://fevo-enterprise.com/event/Rogersmiddle/offer
The Bruins also gave us special permission to release a one of a kind Rockland t-shirt that is modeled after the Bruins on Ice jerseys to wear at the game! The t-shirt cost is $25, and is also available as a sweatshirt or long sleeve. Please use the following link to order a t-shirt before
March 13.
FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Spring is just around the corner.
Seasonal allergies will start soon. If your child requires medication, this is a good time to have it refilled and ready to be started. If they do not take medication but you know that they suffer from allergy symptoms, please send in a note to make us aware so that they will not be sent to the nurse’s office with runny noses and coughs. You can also give over the counter medication before school. I do not have allergy or cough and cold medicine in the nurse's office.
Please have your children dressed appropriately for the weather.
A copy of your children’s most recent physical form from the doctor needs to be on file at school, thank you to those who have done this already. You can send in a paper copy or email a copy to me and I will print it.
Hearing, vision, spinal, weight and height screenings will continue and letters will be sent home if any concerns are found.
Food continues to be free for breakfast and lunch. If your child will not eat the food at school, please send them with lunch from home. Please send a couple of healthy snacks for your child each day.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Please save the date for our annual Shamrock Classic on March 20 at 6:30 PM. This traditional teachers versus student (8th grade) basketball game is a ton of fun for all. Tickets will be sold for $5 the week of the event in the cafeteria during lunches according to the following schedule:
Monday, March 18 - 8th grade only (first dibs!)
Tuesday, March 19 - all grades
Wednesday, March 20 - all grades
As the staff will be cheering and playing in the game, we ask that students be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the event.
Reminder that yearbooks are still available. Please see the attached flier if interested.
As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Best wishes for a wonderful March!
Sincerely,
Cheryl Schipper
