Greetings, Eames Way Families!

Welcome to the end of the first week of April! On Monday the National Theater Company provided an enrichment for third, fourth, and fifth graders in the form of a play about energy! On Wednesday, our third graders were introduced to different instruments as they make choices about music lessons for band next school year. This Friday afternoon, we concluded our clothing drive for Nicolas Roht's "Cradles to Crayons" project and are so grateful for the generosity of our students and families! Nicolas filled the entire back of a truck with our contributions -- Way to go, EWS!

This week was also a special week of recognition for students as well as EWS Staff. We celebrated Assistant Principal Appreciation Day, Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, and School Librarian Appreciation Day!

Every day throughout the year, we know and recognize how lucky we are to have such an amazing and committed team of professionals at Eames Way School.

We also recognized thirteen more students with Principal Awards for best demonstrating March's Theme of the Month: Honesty! Thank you to these students for helping to promote a culture of honesty in our school community. We were also thrilled to see another record number of students come to the Main Office with FIVE Junior Ram Awards! Keep up the great work, EWS Students!

MEETING THE CHALLENGE:
Understanding, Preventing, and Responding Effectively To Challenging Behavior

Presented by Kathleen Dorn, Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Pilgrim Area Collaborative

Having a child with challenging behavior can affect the entire family. This interactive workshop will provide parents with a basis for understanding the causes and functions of their child’s challenging behaviors. Practical strategies and pro-active interventions will be discussed as participants learn new ways to prevent and respond to challenging behaviors more effectively.

Additionally - Representatives from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Office of Public School Monitoring will provide a brief parent orientation about the upcoming Tiered Focus Monitoring Review of Marshfield Public Schools at the start of the evening.

PickUp Patrol is an app used by our families to notify EWS about attendance, including when your student will be absent, arriving late or leaving early, as well as dismissal plan changes. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us implement our new system!

Every three years our parent/guardian CORI forms need to be updated in order to volunteer at school events or in the classroom. This year marks the beginning of a three year term, so every parent/guardian that would like to volunteer needs to complete a new form this year (even if you have been approved in the past).

Who are they? They are a team of public health dental hygienists.

What do they do? They provide fluoride varnish treatments and oral health screenings in school. They also provide dental cleanings and sealants as needed!

When are they coming? May 2, 2024

Is this required? No! This service is 100% optional. A consent form will be sent home today in your child’s folder. If you’re interested then fill it out and return it to school next week.

Does this require dental insurance? No! This is a public health initiative and is free of charge. All children can benefit from this program.

Attention Fifth Grade Parents

Postural screening(“scoliosis screening”) will be taking place during the month of May. The Department of Public Health guidelines mandate that students in grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are screened annually for scoliosis. More detailed information will be sent out to 5th grade parents. If you would like your child to opt out of this screening, please send in a note or email to Nurse White at awhite@mpsd.org.

Illness

Please be vigilant in monitoring your children for any symptoms of illness prior to sending them to school. If you have concerns about illness/symptoms in the morning, please call Nurse White to discuss before sending your child/children into school. If you have questions regarding absences or attendance related to illnesses, Nurse White will be happy to discuss these with you. The Health Office phone number is 781-834-5090, ext. 44500. Please continue to keep the school nurse updated on any health related absence awhite@mpsd.org.

Guidelines for return to school after an illness

• Fever over 100 degrees (child must be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of Tylenol or Motrin, to return to school)

• Vomiting and/or diarrhea (if your child has had any vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours, they should not return to school)

• Diagnosis of communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis (if diagnosed with a communicable disease and prescribed antibiotics, your child must not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours). A doctor's note should be brought to school via backpack, emailed to awhite@mpsd.org, or faxed to 339-244-2475.
