PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
What a great first week back from break!
It was such fun seeing the students and staff back on campus. As promised we kicked off our ATTACK THE SBAC push this past Wednesday at our Leadership Assembly. In just a few short weeks JMMS students will be given the chance to demonstrate all that they have learned. It’s an exciting time of year. Behind the scenes, preparations are being made for end of year activities, grade trips, and 8th grade Promotion. And we aren’t slowing down. Stay tuned for all the excitement.
Please enjoy this edition of the Dust Devil Weekly.

JMMS Engineering "Fling It to Wing It"
On Saturday the JMMS Engineering Program participated in the first Annual San Diego Air and Space Museum "Fling It to Wing It" Flying Contest! Our students designed and built their own flying machines! They had great fun and were a huge success! Thanks to the parents that showed up to support our kids and as always thanks to Mrs. Tompkins and Coach Loarie for all of their hard work and commitment to our amazing program!
8th Grade Portraits
Attention 8th Grade Families! On Thursday, April 18th Hager Photography will be here at JMMS to take our 8th graders final portraits of middle school! A couple of things to remember: no money is needed at the time the photos are taken and there will be NO make-up photos taken. Please send your child to school on April 18th ready to smile for the camera!
Focus on: Spring Fever!
April is often associated with the beginning of Spring, and Earth Day, but did you know that April is also National Volunteer Month? Throughout the year, multiple parents have inquired about opportunities to volunteer here at Joan MacQueen. There are many benefits to volunteering at your child’s school, and here are just a few:
It can make a difference for your child. A university of New Hampshire study has found that students perform better when a parent volunteers at their school.
You get to know the school, staff, and other parents.
When parents volunteer, it can free teachers to focus on their priority–teaching kids.
You can show off your own skill set.
It can be good for your health. Multiple studies have demonstrated that there are multiple health benefits to giving back.
Would you like to volunteer at JMMS? Contact Mr. Bailey for information on how you can become a volunteer here at JMMS.
