A Peek At Our Week
Leadership Food Drive
As Evergreen Eagles, we have an opportunity to "take a bite out of hunger!' Through the collection of docations, we will help restock the food pantries that support Carol Stream families. There are many folks in our community faced with not having enough food. Doing a little work together will go a long way to help those in our community.
From March 11th-March 21st, leadership will be collecting food and tallying which grade level has collected the most. The grade level winner will get to have a PJ/stuffy day with a movie of their teacher's choice.
Items that need to be donated:
Preschool: condiments, cooking supplies, canned meat
Kindergarten: powdered and evaporated milk, canned fruits & vegetables, spices
1st Grade: instant oatmeal or grits, healthy cereal, peanut butter & jelly
2nd Grade: boxes of rice, pasta, pasta sauce, biscuit mix, dried fruit
3rd Grade: laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, toilet paper
4th Grade: diapers (sizes 3-5), wipes, pet food
WE CAN DO THIS! Evergreen Eagles- let's take a bite out of hunger!!

Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year is Open! (Repeat)
Registration and enrollment for the fall 2024-25 school year is open from Friday, March 1 through Friday, April 12! You must complete your child's fall registration during this window for your child to be scheduled for fall courses. Your child will only be considered fully registered for the 2024-25 school year once all online enrollment forms have been completed AND proof of residency documents have been submitted in person at either the Evergreen office or the District Administration Office. New students will also need a copy of birth documentation submitted. Please note that the option to upload residency documents and birth certificates is not available for fall 2024-25 school year registration. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, however, it is a necessary change for the administrative process.
Registration forms are located in your parent PowerSchool portal under Forms, then Enrollment. Detailed instructions on how to complete the enrollment process can be found on the district Student Registration page. If you need assistance with accessing your parent PowerSchool portal or have questions about the registration process after reviewing the Student Registration page, please contact Mrs. Snyder via email at ksnyder@benjamin25.org or call the Evergreen Office at (630) 876-7810. Thank you!
Evergreen Administrative Assistant
With Mrs. Sheehy moving onto a new adventure, Evergreen is hiring an administrative assistant. If you know if anyone who would be a good fit, please encourage them to apply!
A Note from the Health Office (Repeat)
With registration right around the corner, I would like to bring to your attention that there is a new physical form that the State of IL is requiring to be used to suffice the mandated physical requirement at grades prek, K, 6, and 9. The new form can be found on the district website, as well as at your doctor's office. Please be sure to sign the parent signature portion which is now located on the front page. The format for the new physical is different and there is an added component of a social emotional screener for the doctor to complete. Details are as follows per IL School Code:
Per IL School Code (105 ILCS 5/27-8.1) (from Ch. 122, par. 27-8.1) Sec. 27-8.1. Health Examinations and immunizations.
"With respect to the developmental screening and the social and emotional screening portion of the health examination, each child may present proof of having been screened in accordance with this Section and the rules adopted under this Section before October 15th of the school year. With regard to the social and emotional screening only, the examining health care provider shall only record whether or not the screening was completed. If the child fails to present proof of the developmental screening or the social and emotional screening portions of the health examination by October 15th of the school year, qualified school support personnel may, with a parent's or guardian's consent, offer the developmental screening or the social and emotional screening to the child.""Once a developmental screening or a social and emotional screening is completed and proof has been presented to the school, the school may, with a parent's or guardian's consent, make available appropriate school personnel to work with the parent or guardian, the child, and the provider who signed the screening form to obtain any appropriate evaluations and services as indicated on the form and in other information and documentation provided by the parents, guardians, or provider."
Dental exams are required for students in kindergarten and second grade. Please begin calling your students' dentists to make those appointments. The exams are due by May 15, 2024 and need to be completed within 18 months of that date. The forms can be found on the Benjamin website or your dentist should also have a copy. If you have any questions, please call the health office.
(Repeat) Evergreen's vision and hearing screenings have been completed. Dates were on the school calendar for mandated grades, new Evergreen students, and students receiving special education services. Screenings can be completed for teacher or parent requests as needed. If your student wears glasses or hearing devices, please be sure to send them with your student each day. In lieu of the screening services required, a completed and signed report form, indicating the child had an ear examination by a physician and an audiological evaluation completed by an audiologist within the previous 12 months, is acceptable. The parent or legal guardian of a student may object to hearing or vision screening tests for their children on religious grounds. If a religious objection is made, a written and signed statement from the parent or legal guardian detailing such objections must be presented to the local school authority. Screening instruments, test procedures and referral criteria are defined in the Illinois Administrative Code. Children whose test results meet referral criteria are referred to an eye doctor or family physician for further evaluation. If your student has been referred by the health office, please complete the exam in a timely fashion.
(Repeat) This is a reminder that no student should have any medication with them during school hours (including cough drops, eye drops, cold medication, cough medication, etc) unless they have the proper paperwork in place to administer it to themselves. An inhaler and Epi-pen are the only medications that can be carried with a student for self-administration at this time. Having students carry other medication could be a dangerous situation if the medication got into the wrong hands. Any parent is welcome to come to school to administer medication to their student as needed. Per Illinois School Code "the administration of medication to students during the regular school hours and during school-related activities should be discouraged unless absolutely necessary for the critical health and wellbeing of the student.” If this is the case, please complete the necessary forms to be completed by the physician and talk to the nurse at your student's school building to make necessary arrangements.
(Repeat) We are continuing to see cases of common illnesses and health problems at both buildings. Influenza appears to be in full swing within the community, and we have also heard about hand, foot, and mouth, strep, pink eye, the stomach bug, COVID, and lice all reported to the health offices. Please be vigilant in checking your students for their wellness and continue to keep them home when ill. When home, it is recommended to consult your child's physician for treatment options and needs based on their symptoms. Please inform the building nurse of any concerning health conditions.
Let's have a safe and healthy remainder of the school year!
