A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It's good to be back at school and to see all the smiling faces! I think everyone grew at least three inches while I was out. Once again, I'd like to thank Mr. Tom Soule for filling in during my time away.
As you know, we recently welcomed Mrs. Amy Bennett to the PES staff as library ed tech. I'd like to share a few things she has planned for March. At the beginning of the month, we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday. On Wednesday, we will wear red and white, and on Friday we will wear crazy socks. I hope your child can join in the fun! She will also focus on the Chickadee Award books for students in pre-K through 4th grade. She will read aloud each nominee to students. During the week of March 19th-26th, students will vote on their favorite during their library time. Once the PES voting is complete, the results will be presented at our Student of the Month assembly.
On a more serious note, there has been a recent uptick in some students in grades 3, 4, and 5 using unacceptable language on the playground. I recently addressed this in the cafeteria, and classroom teachers have spoken to students as well. I wanted to make you aware and ask for your support as we address these incidents among students who make hurtful comments, both directly and indirectly, to their peers. We try to treat these moments as learning opportunities for our students who may not know the impact of their words or actions, given their age. Our goal is to ensure that our school community is a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students and staff. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at sgorsuch-plummer@rsu1.org or our social worker, Mrs. Terry McCartney at tmccartney@rsu1.org.
Finally, be on the lookout for parent/teacher conference sign-up information! That time is fast approaching, as the end of the second trimester closes on March 8th. Report cards will be sent home on March 20th.
NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK
National School Breakfast Week is March 4-8; if you haven't already, it's the perfect time to try school breakfast. All school meals are free for PES students.
YEAR BOOK VOLUNTEER
We are looking for a volunteer to create this year's PES year book. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Doran at 389-1514 as soon as possible.
NURSE NOTE
We have 21 remaining boxes of COVID tests. Each box has 2 tests. If you have not obtained one-and would like one-please reach out, and I can leave a box for you in Mrs. Doran's office. First come, first serve.
Please remember, if a student has a fever (100.4F or greater), or diarrhea, or vomiting, they must be symptom-free (without taking fever reducing medication) for 24 hours from the last episode before returning to school. Thank you.
PARENTS, PLEASE REVIEW SCHOOL BUS RULES WITH YOUR CHILD IF THEY RIDE THE BUS
Remain seated.
Face the front of the bus.
Keep hands and feet to yourself and out of the aisle.
Use a quiet voice to talk.
No eating and drinking.
Keep the bus clean by cleaning up after yourself.
Use kind and respectful language.
Also: always remember the Danger Zone, and follow Bus Driver’s direction.
Students who violate the bus rules will be sent home with a bus slip. Upon receipt of a third bus notice, the student and parents will meet with the principal to determine a corrective plan of action. The principal reserves the right to remove students from the bus for a period of time based upon rule violations at any time.
KINDERGARTEN SEARCH
Do you, or someone you know, have a child living in Phippsburg that will be five by October 15th? If so, they are eligible for our full-day kindergarten class. Please call Mrs. Doran at 389-1514, and we’ll add them to the list for this fall, and contact you when we schedule Parent Information Night and Kindergarten online registration and screening. Advance notice helps us to ensure we have enough materials. We look forward to assisting you.
