Hello, Riverside Families! We are down to the last few weeks of school. Thank you for all of your support and participation in your child's education this year.

Riverside Principal Change:

I am happy to announce that Mr. Preston Fischer will be the new principal at Riverside Elementary for the 2024-25 school year. Mr. Fischer has been the assistant principal at Spalding Park Elementary School for the past three years. He is excited to get to know all of the staff, students, and families at Riverside. Please stay tuned for more information throughout the summer from Mr. Fischer. I plan on working with him in June to ensure that his transition to Riverside is a smooth as possible.

I want you all to know how much I will miss the students, staff, and families at Riverside. I have enjoyed getting to know you all. This is not goodbye, it is an "I will see you later". Next year, I will be a Tier One Coordinator that will be supporting Leeds Elementary and Bryant Elementary School. I wish you all the best and please know that Riverside will always hold a special spot in my heart. Once a Roadrunner, you are always a Roadrunner.

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress:

Out students in third, fourth, and fifth grade have all completed the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) in the areas of English-Language Arts (writing and reading) and math. Our fifth graders also completed the science assessments. We will share results from these assessments as soon as we have the final scores.

End of the Year Activities:

We will have several end of the year activities going on in May. Please see below for the events that will be happening.

Riverside will have Field Day on Tuesday, May 21. If you would be interested in volunteering for this event, please make sure you have a Volunteer/Background Check form filled out. We would love to have your help! This will be the schedule: 9am-11am- Third, fourth, and fifth grade students participate. 1pm-3pm- kindergarten, first, and second grade students participate. Thank you.

On Thursday, May 23, our students will eat their lunch on the lawn. We will have all classes eat outside and enjoy some fun outside before the fifth grade vs. staff annual kickball game at 12:45.

The last day of school is Thursday, May 23. There is an early dismissal on this day. Students in preschool will be dismissed at 1:15 and students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade will be dismissed at 1:30.

Wednesday, May 1 : Fifth Grade visit to West Middle School 9:00-11:00

Thursday, May 2: Are You Smarter than Our Fourth Graders? Event at West High School at 6:00pm.

Friday, May 3: Kindergarten Field Trip to Farm 9:00-11:30

Friday, May 10: School-wide Surprise Assembly at 2:30

Tuesday, May 21: Field Day- 9am-11am- Third, fourth, and fifth grade. 1pm-3pm- kindergarten, first, and second grade

Wednesday, May 22: Fifth grade celebration: Movie at the Promenade and a picnic at Riverside Park. Second Grade Classes walk to Goldie Park

Thursday, May 23: Last Day of School for Students. Third grade field trip to Adam's Nature Preserve 9am-12pm. 12:30 staff vs. fifth grade kickball game. 1:30 Dismissal

Student medication and/or medical supplies will be sent home with your child on the last day of school. If you would like to make other arrangements, please contact the school office before the last day of school. Any unused medication that remains at school will be disposed of in compliance with federal and state laws or will be given to the School Resource Officers for proper disposal.

Riverside Elementary is collecting Box Tops and Hy-Vee Receipts.We also collect pop-tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. We have a place to collect all of these items in the office.Thank you!
