Principal's Message
Dear Eccles Families and Caregivers,
We have awesome students! They are working hard in their school routines and making significant progress in their learning. Thank you for your support in getting them to school on time and ready to learn each morning!
On Wednesday this week I had the pleasure of working with other building administrators on our fourth district learning walk of the year at Canby High School led by the University of Washington’s Center for Educational Leadership. At the high school, I saw several different teachers in action, providing strong learning opportunities for our Canby High School students, and respectful and responsible students making the most of their learning opportunities.
As a district, we continue our work to align around best practices that ensure student growth. Student Engagement has been, and continues to be, a priority for us. Student Talk is one of the important ways students can engage in their learning. It was great to see the high school team’s work and progress around student talk, as that is part of our school goals - #2 Eccles will increase all student’s literacy proficiency through the use of WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) strategies.
Our school goals continue to drive our professional development and schoolwide practices. We are working hard to make significant progress this spring. Here is to a strong spring!
Sincerely,
Kelly

CARE Award Nominations
Each month, Canby School District and the Canby Kiwanis Club will highlight a different school in our district and will recognize a staff member from that school with the CARE Award. Eccles will be highlighted during the month of May. So, if you know of an Eccles staff member who has made a difference in your life, the life of a child you know, or in the community, please consider nominating them for the CARE Award.
More Upcoming Events
The Canby community is invited to attend the Canby High School student art show reception on Monday, April 22 from 5-7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. Join us in celebrating the artistic achievements of our students!
Student SEED Survey
Canby School District will offer Oregon’s Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey to students in grades 3-11, as required by Oregon law, during state testing this spring. The SEED Survey gives students the opportunity to voice their experiences in Oregon’s education system and is designed to capture their sense of belonging and experiences at school.
What is the SEED Survey?
It asks students about access to learning resources, learning opportunities, self-efficacy beliefs, and sense of belonging
Grades 6-11 includes questions about career-technical education and extracurricular activities
Grades 9-11 includes questions about post-graduation planning
Multiple choice, with additional open-ended questions for grades 6-11
Takes about 10-20 minutes to complete
Students may decline to answer individual questions
Oregon law (HB 2656) permits parents or guardians to decline to have their student participate in the SEED Survey. Any student who is excused from participating will have supervised study time or another learning activity while other students are completing the survey.
If you would like your student to participate in the SEED Survey, no further action is required.
If you do not want your student to participate in the SEED Survey, please click here to opt out. For Eccles Elementary, please respond by Friday, April 19.

What's Cooking?
At school, there’s always a meal ready to be served!
Some mornings, it’s tough to find the time to make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast. On those days, why not send them to the School Breakfast Program? Each meal meets government nutritional guidelines and standards. Schools are required to provide a breakfast meal that includes fruit, whole-grain rich items, and low fat or fat free milk. Check your child’s menu to see the variety of nutritious choices available at School Breakfast, or stop by to sample the food yourself!
