District Update - March 29

Superintendent's Message
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to Middie Nation for a wonderful Easter holiday and Spring Break.
I hope you can find opportunities to rest, recharge, and spend quality moments with friends and family. It’s important to take time when needed and to reward yourself for the work you do. All those who have contributed to the success of Midview Local Schools and supported our great students have certainly earned it! As a reminder, Spring Break is March 29 through April 5, followed by Eclipse Day (no school) on April 8.
You have likely heard, seen on the news, or read from various media sources that our area is a prime viewing location for the total solar eclipse. The event is anticipated to draw large numbers of visitors to Ohio, particularly at or near the centerline of totality. While this once-in-a-lifetime experience presents a unique learning opportunity for students, I encourage families to ensure they are well-informed on how to enjoy the day safely. To learn more about the solar eclipse, including safe viewing guidelines and event locations, please visit eclipse.ohio.gov.
In closing, I would like to express my gratitude to our students, families, staff members, and community for your commitment, hard work, and continued support. We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back from break on Tuesday, April 9, ready to tackle state testing and the last quarter of the 2023-24 school year.
Take care,
Dr. Willingham
Feature Story - New Five-Year Facility Plan Update
2024 marks the fourth year that the Midview Local Schools strategic plan has been operational. We are so proud of our progress as we work toward becoming an innovative educational leader in social-emotional learning, safety, and unique educational pathways for all students.
We will soon enhance and revise our strategic plan, taking a deeper dive into our goals for the next five years, with a significant focus centered on facility improvement and upgrades.
As responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, we have upheld our assurances to our community to maintain our buildings and grounds. However, challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and the initial setback of the 2022 substitute levy, have impacted our ability to plan outside of essential maintenance.
With the full support of the Midview Local Schools Board of Education, we have redirected our focus toward the future of our facilities and crafted a comprehensive five-year plan that will proactively guide our decisions. Ultimately, our objective is to ensure that our campus remains a source of pride and continues to serve our students and community for many years to come.
The five-year facilities plan encompasses a wide range of priorities, including routine maintenance schedules, replacement projections, and foundational infrastructure needs that all organizations must face (boilers, windows, HVAC, roofs). Additionally, our plan also includes an initial outline of transformational, big-picture projects that will require community engagement and buy-in in the future.
Looking ahead to summer, we are thrilled to outline some exciting changes that will be unveiled at the start of the 2024-25 school year:
- Track renovation, including resurfacing and improved grating and drainage
- Complete upgrade of Ross Field, including new turf, improvements in the press box, the addition of a new sound system, and the installation of a video scoreboard
- Installation of new interior and exterior fencing around the track and Ross Field
- Revamp of old tennis/basketball courts, including conversion of the North-end tennis courts into six pickleball courts for school and community use
- Pavement of the walking path addition
