SCHOOL UPDATES AND NEWS
Changes for 2024-25
Most schools in PPS have changes in scheduling and staffing for the 2024-25 school year.
MLC is exploring a full day on Friday for students and staff to accommodate the changes in the contract as a result of bargaining as well as FDA rules regarding lunch not being served on a half day.
When we have more information and schedules are decided, we will share with our community.
Elective Sign-Ups !
Elective Sign-Ups will take place this TUESDAY, March 19th, in the auditorium.
Students will participate in an arena-style registration process that provides opportunities to read descriptions carefully, make choices based on their interests, strategically plan the order to sign up, wait responsibly for their turn, and learn what to do when a class becomes full. We will have an abundance of support staff and older students available to help children navigate this experience to make it a safe and positive one.

Families Can Help By:
Discussing class selections prior to sign-ups and having students choose their favorites.
Expressing excitement over the variety of choices, the mixed ages, the small size of classes, and the opportunity to meet new friends and teachers.
Realizing that students may not get all of their top choices, and talking through possible responses ahead of time, including the value of trying new things.
Knowing they can reach out to Dana (dlipson@pps.net), the electives coordinator, to help resolve issues or answer questions.
To minimize crowding in line, the students will be grouped by FIRST NAME; a different group will be first to line up each trimester. DOG GROUP GOES FIRST THIS TIME!

Volunteers needed in the library!
Our library needs some love.
Here are some of the projects we are working on:
- Shelving books
- Weeding out old or damaged books
- Cleaning up the shelves so the books are in the correct places
- Book displays, bulletin boards, general decor updating
If any of these seems like something you can help with, send Molly an email msoloway@pps.net

*Look for more info next week in the PTSA newsletter and in fliers we’ll be sending home with students!
This is traditionally our largest fundraiser of the year and a fun opportunity to come together and celebrate the magic of MLC. Over the coming months, we'll share details about how MLC families can help us put on an entertaining event that both raises funds and builds community. Contact Sierra Stringfield Perryman with any questions or if you are interested in helping! We can’t do it without you!
Donate (and/or ask others to do so!): Do you own a business? Or perhaps know someone who does? How about a cabin or vacation rental? Do you have a skill to share? Do you have items in new condition that you don’t need and you’d rather pass on to a good cause? Perhaps you have a drawer full of old gift cards that you haven't used but that are still giftable? Please consider donating your time, talent, or treasures!
There is no limit (big OR small!) and each and every item truly helps…gift certificates, physical items, artwork, experiences, festival tickets, photography sessions, signed books, bottles of wine for our Wine Wall…think outside the box about what *YOU* can offer, or ask your favorite business what they can contribute!
You can use our online donation form (or grab a paper donation form from the PTSA cubby in the MLC office) or just coordinate directly with Sierra. If you’d like a template donation request letter, just ask and we’d be happy to share.
Host a Buy-In Party: What exactly *is* a Buy-In Party?! Buy-in parties are events hosted by MLC families, teachers, alums, or supporters that a pre-determined number of people can sign up to attend. They're like electives for grownups, or for the whole family, or even just for kids but outside of school time! Participants pay to attend and the money raised goes to the MLC PTSA so buy-in parties are a great way to build community while raising money at our annual auction. If you have a skill to share, an awesome activity you can lead, or you just want to plan a party, please consider donating your time and talent and signing up to host a buy-in party! Find more info on the INTEREST FORM
IS IT YOU? We Need PTSA Board Members for Next Year
The MLC PTSA will be holding elections on June 4 for board positions for the 2024-25 school year. We are looking for candidates for:
President - 2 year term
Vice President - 2 year term
Secretary - 1 year term (to finish out current term)
The PTSA is a great way to meet new families, get to know staff better, and to ensure that our teachers and students are supported. No prior board experience is required -- just a love for your kids and our school community. We hope to have some new parents join us and would LOVE to see more families get involved! If you are interested in serving, or just want any more information about the positions and what they are responsible for, please contact current President Jeremy Booth.

TOURS AND ENROLLMENT
MLC Tours for Interested Students & Families
Exploring school options to determine the best fit for a student can be both exciting and anxiety producing. We believe getting to actually see the surrounding location and have a guided tour of the building can be very helpful in this decision-making process. To accommodate the numerous requests for tours, we offer a monthly tour for up to 10 interested families on the second Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm and will last approximately 45-60 minutes.
April 11
May 9
Please email Benner, our 7-12 counselor to initiate the sign up process or if you have any questions. gbenner@pps.net
When the lottery dates are announced we will also host an evening open house event for families. Please check our website for updates.
