Dear Snail Lake Kindergarten Families,
It’s almost the big day! We are so excited to welcome your child to kindergarten on Tuesday morning! Here are some things to prepare for Tuesday:
School Hours - Our official school hours are 9:05 - 3:45pm.
Phone Number - You can reach the front office at 651-621-8000.
Routines - Please have your child begin routines starting Tuesday morning! If your child will ride the bus during the year, have them ride the bus the first day!
Pictures & Send Off - Please take pictures of your child at home so that they can enter the building smoothly when they arrive to start their day. Staff will meet your child at the bus, from YCARE, or from parent drop-off and escort them into the building. For the safety of all children, please do not walk your child to the classroom. We want to encourage independence and we begin the very first day. As an early learning center, we realize that some students may have mixed emotions (and so will parents!) and having a clear send-off from parents in the morning helps them settle faster into the day.
Parent Drop-off - If you are going to drop off your child in the morning during the year (between 8:50 - 9:05am), please enter the parking lot along Hodgson Road and line up along the north side of the building where you will find “Parent Pick Up” parking zones. Please do not get out of the car. A staff member will meet your child and help him/her get out of the car. This will help ensure a smooth and safe drop-off experience for everyone. See below for a map.
Flexibility - Buses may run late in the first few days of school. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we safely transport children to and from school.
Parent Handbook - Our parent handbook can be found at www.moundsviewschools.org/snaillakehandbook. Some things to highlight:
Reaching Your Child’s Teacher - A staff directory can be found on our school website. It includes email addresses and phone numbers. Please be aware that the teacher may have their phone set-up to go to voicemail while they are teaching. Please leave your message and the teacher will get back to you within 48 hours. If there is an urgent message, please contact our child’s school office at 651-621-8000.
Attendance Line - Please call our school’s attendance line at 651-621-8001 and leave a voice message if your child will be absent or late to school. This is a voice mail system accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Building Security Procedures - A visitor screening system helps track visitors and volunteers at each school, providing a safe and monitored environment for students and staff. When parents come to pick-up their child(ren), or visitors check-in, they will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID for entering into the system. The system has the ability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of the school.
Health Services - You are encouraged to contact our Licensed School Nurse if your child has a chronic health condition (including severe allergies) requiring management during the school day or if you have a question regarding his/her physical or emotional health. The Snail Lake Licensed School Nurse is Taylor Sandstrom and can be reached at taylor.sandstrom@moundsviewschools.org. You can also reach our health office at 651-621-8004.
Birthdays or Special Occasions - In order to provide a safe environment for our students with food sensitivities, all elementary schools have the following guideline for birthday celebrations. If you wish to bring something to share with classmates for a birthday celebration, please limit it to a non-food acknowledgement. Donation examples include but are not limited to: student’s favorite book to the class collection, have a special “guest reader” read a book to the class, stickers, pencils, pens, markers, erasers, a board game to the class for indoor recess days, etc.
Volunteering - If you are interested in volunteering at your child’s school, please contact the school office. All volunteers in the Mounds View School District will be required to complete a background check conducted at your child’s school. Volunteers are required to familiarize themselves with Policy EG-3104 before starting at the school.
Thank you so much for your partnership! We are looking forward to a great year!
