Dear Thacher Families:
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, our 3rd and 4th graders will be taking the ELA MCAS. Please talk to your children about making sure they keep the noise level down in the school during testing times to ensure that those taking the test are able to concentrate and do their best work without being distracted.
Sincerely,

This Month in Health & Wellness 🍎
Hello Thacher Families,
February was National Children’s Dental Health Month, and we spent our classes learning about how to take care of our teeth. Students learned about plaque, cavities, gingivitis, and were encouraged to brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes each (plus daily flossing!). Along with proper dental care, we also learned about the importance of limiting sugars in our diet, and students ranked common snack and drink items based on their added sugar levels per serving size. We read food labels and measured grams of added sugar using a food scale.
Throughout March, students learned about the importance of getting enough sleep. K-4 students were encouraged to sleep 10-12 hours every night, as well as to develop a healthy sleep routine to get ready for bed. Suggestions included limiting screen time, not eating a lot before bed, trying guided meditation or other soothing music sounds, and going to bed at the same time every night. We’ve now transitioned into our safety and injury prevention unit, and students are learning about safe and unsafe situations, first aid basics, not talking to strangers, playground safety, and using proper safety equipment, like helmets, seatbelts, and life jackets.
As spring and the warmer weather approaches, hopefully classes will get some time outside. If possible, it would be great if students had appropriate shoes for outside games on days that they have Health/Wellness class. We’re looking forward to our final ten(ish) weeks of school!
For those that celebrate, Happy Easter! Enjoy the long weekend,
Ms. Ashley Hanson
