A Note from Mr. Gregorio
Hello Paradise Ridge Elementary School Families,
The students did a wonderful job returning to school after the spring break. They were quick to get back to their academics and reconnect with their friends.
During April, we will be focusing on the virtue of perseverance. During Friday's Eagle Assembly, I defined perseverance as the ability to keep trying when learning a new skill or concept. (Ask your students about Mr. G's baseball analogy.) Students practice perseverance, willingness to learn new things, and knowing that learning only comes with continual effort. When students encounter a learning challenge, they can tell themselves, "I do not know how to do this YET, but if I keep trying and ask for help." I hope you find this article on nurturing your child's perseverance helpful.
Each month, students in grades 3-6 complete a short socioemotional survey that provides the Paradise Ridge Elementary staff timely information on student safety and well-being. In the survey the students completed before spring break, most students reported knowing what to do if a student teased them or caused a problem (ask the other student to stop, walk away, and tell an adult if needed). The second survey question asked if they are willing to tell an adult if they have a problem with teasing at school. Fewer students answered "yes" to this question. As a result, I visited the fifth and sixth grade classrooms to discuss the discrepancy between the two questions. Several students expressed concern about retaliation from their peers if they reported a problem. The students and I spent a lot of time discussing the importance of reporting inappropriate/unsafe behavior and how adults at school will work hard to ensure they are safe and fully supported. If your child comes home with a concern that is not getting better or is severe, please let me know. I want to work with you and your child to make sure that they are treated with kindness and respect while at school.
Thank you for entrusting us with the care and education of your students!
