Week Nine:

Last week was another fun filled week of special events and memories here at Cucinella.

Monday our new assistant principal, Mr. Dan O’Connor, joined the Cucinella community and started to get to know our students and staff. Mr. O'Connor is joining us after spending the last eleven years teaching kindergarten, first, and second grade (the last nine years in Montclair). Mr. O'Connor spent the day visiting classrooms introducing himself to students and staff alike. He also got to run a security drill and shadowed Mr. Perruso as they checked the school and reviewed safety protocols for a lockdown. The rest of the week he visited lunch and recess periods to continue to meet students and get a feel for the school.


On Tuesday, we celebrated Halloween with our school wide parade. What a great event it was! The students and staff were decked out in their Halloween costumes and strutted their stuff down the Cucinella sidewalks! Thank you to all of the family members who came out to join us for the parade. After the parade, the classes continued the celebration by having parties inside with the help of their PTO room parents. All in all it was a great way to celebrate the holiday.


Friday, we "Stuffed the Bus" with food and other household items for our yearly food drive to benefit the Long Valley Interfaith Food Pantry. Thank you to all who supported this worthwhile event to help our local community!


The week ahead is a short but busy one with parent teacher conferences on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Each day will be an early dismissal for our students with conferences in the afternoon and evenings. Dismissal for our students is 12:35PM on each of these days. The school will then be closed on Thursday and Friday for the NJEA Teachers Convention.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, November 6th from 1:00-3:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, November 7th from 6:00-8:00pm, and Wednesday, November 8th from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Teachers have been reaching out with conference sign-up information. If you have not heard from your teacher yet regarding conferences, please reach out directly to them via email or phone call.

Stuff the Bus 2023

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Cross and Mrs. Karpi

This week our fourth grade scientists continued their study of rocks and soils. The students used stream tables to observe the phenomenon of erosion as the transportation of earth materials from one place to another. They also learned how environmental variables such as slope and water volume(floods) can affect erosion and deposition. Thank you Mrs. Cross and Mrs. Karpi for creating these fun and educational lessons for our students!

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey

Interested in becoming a Girl Scout? This November, we are thrilled to introduce the Brownie Fall Adventure series—a virtual series designed specifically for 2nd and 3rd graders. This fantastic program is open to girls new to Girl Scouts. Throughout this virtual series, girls will have the chance to explore the rich traditions of Girl Scouting through educational, engaging, and fun activities, all while making new friends.
