Parent & Family Newsletter
Dear Birmingham Families,
It's a beautiful time of year filled with excitement and expectation about the upcoming senior culminating activities like prom, senior sunset, senior awards night and graduation. Of course, all students look forward to completing a year of high school on their pathway to college and career readiness. The challenge for parents and educators alike is to keep our students focused on the work at hand and finishing the semester strongly to accomplish their yearly goals.
Please work with us to motivate the students to show their best selves at this time of year known for change and growth. Also, know that you should feel free to contact your student's teachers or counselors for questions or simply to partner on supporting student success. The Parent Center is also an incredible resource available to all whether it's a question about logging in to Aeries or learning about resources available to students and families.
Please be on the lookout for a couple of activities that you might want to attend. We will have the Wellness Fair on Saturday May 13 in the Victory Blvd. parking lot from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Don't miss out on a fun day full of community resources, small business vendors, lowrider car show, your favorite food trucks, FREE haircuts, FREE clothing boutique, arts & crafts, and more! This event is FREE and OPEN to the community. Also, our incredible Dance Team will be performing two shows: Friday May 12 and Saturday May 13 in the Sally Field Performing Arts building at 7:00 on both nights. We hope you're able to join us for one or both events.
I hope you and your student has had a great experience at Birmingham this school year. It's our pleasure to work with such incredible students and families!
Sincerely,
Principal Bennett
Class of 2026:
The first year of our 9th graders' high school career has nearly come to an end, and it has gone by incredibly fast! We are proud of our 9th graders for their dedication and commitment to their education, as well as their compassion toward one another, the Birmingham community, and their families. We know that, as they move on to higher grade levels, they will serve as models and mentors for our incoming, new students.
In the meantime, here is what our 9th graders have been up to:
- Our I-Dance program, of mixed grade levels, combining our general education students and students with special needs, continues to thrive. In late February, students attended a field trip to watch a musical performance entitled "Treeology" at CSUN's Soraya Center.
- In March, our Student Senate participated in a food sales fundraiser at Open House to raise money for future Class of 2026 events.
- Later that month, students attended a field trip to the California Science Center.
- Also in late March, our Link Crew mentors facilitated a fun-filled event called the "St. Patty's Bash," during which 9th graders were welcomed to games, face painting, crafts, snacks, and socializing during their Academy Period.
- That same week, students danced the night away at Birmingham's first Banda Night, put on by ASB.
- During the month of April, students who earned GPAs of 3.00 and above were recognized for achieving Honor Roll status.
- On April 28th, 9th graders attended a field trip to UCLA.
Please continue to encourage your children to give the next few weeks all that they've got! Let's finish the school year STRONG together!
Warmly,
The 9th Grade Team
11th Grade Students and Families,
You did it!!!
This past month all Juniors participated in state-mandated testing for English, Math, and Science (SBAC and CAST). We are so proud of the hard work and dedication you showed by showing up every day and taking your time with these state-mandated assessments! Well done!
Finals are scheduled for June 5-8. These are going to be the last grades on your transcript before college applications in the fall. Make them count!
Juniors who have missing credits and are not on path to graduation will automatically be enrolled into summer school (June 12th-July 7th). A letter was sent out explaining the importance of attending summer school and the consequences of not committing to summer school. If you want more information, please schedule a time to meet with your counselor ASAP.
Many of our students continue to experience mental health conditions in different ways. These conditions, along with high levels of stress, can affect their ability to perform well in school as well as out in the world. If your student or any family member is interested in mental health services, please contact our 11th grade Psychiatric Social Worker (PSW), Alex Bartholomew, at 818-758-4447 or a.bartholomew@birminghamcharter.com to discuss how to best support them. You can also contact their academic counselor to discuss available services. So many of our students want to do better but don't have the tools yet, and mental health services can help.
Next year is going to go very quickly. As incoming seniors there will be many events and deadlines happening. Please get started on college applications EARLY, and start getting documents for the FAFSA, etc NOW.
Thank you,
The 11th Grade Team
Every semester ASB hosts a Spirit Week which is filled with daily lunchtime activities, themed dress-up days, as well as large school-wide events. For this spring's βPatriot Oscarβsβ, the main events closed the week with our pep rally and Banda Night.
Thank you to Varsity dance, Cheer, Winter Guard, Play Pro, and Choir for putting on memorable performances. We would also like to thank our Patriots that attended our first-time ever Banda Night. We canβt wait to see you at our pep rallies and school dances next school year!
