Odyssey of the Mind
Champions making pysanky eggs
Pysanky
During the 3rd quarter of 7th-grade social studies, students learned about the current crisis taking place between the countries of Russia and their invasion of the bordering country, Ukraine. Students examined why this invasion occurred, and how many of the Ukrainian children with their families are now considered refugees in Poland. While studying the culture, we discovered the history of pysanky (egg decorating using wax and covering the eggs in symbolic images & colors) which dates back centuries ago. With the beginning of spring, the Champions started thinking of Easter and egg decorating, so our advisories completed a modified version of this creative art form while adding their own personal touches.
