Jeong Ju-hyun Decided To Retire
The LG Twins, who won the Korean Series for the first time in 29 years, have begun a massive squad cleanup. Infielder Chung Ju-hyun, who has expressed his intention to retire, and other players who have played a major role in the past, including pitchers Song Eun-beom, Lim Jung-woo, and infielder Seo Geon-chang, have been excluded from the list of suspended players.
LG announced on the 25th, "We have decided to remove 12 players from the pending list through the process of organizing the team." 안전놀이터
Pitchers Song Eun-beom, Lee Chan-hyuk, Kim Tae-hyung Sung Sung-heon, Lim Jung-woo, infielders Seo Gun-chang, Jung Joo-hyun, Kim Sung-hyeop, Choi Hyun-joon, and outfielders Lee Chun-woong, Choi Min-chang, and Lee Chul-min were notified of their release. Among them, Chung Ju-hyun conveyed his intention to retire to the club.
The most prominent player is Song Eun-beom. Song Eun-beom, who debuted with the SK Wyverns in 2003, pitched in 680 games in his 21 years as a professional, recording 88 wins, 95 losses, 27 saves, 57 holds, and a 4.57 ERA. At LG, he has been active since 2019, playing one of the pillars of the bullpen. This season, however, he pitched only three ⅔ in four games.
Right-handed pitcher Lim Jung-woo was also once expected to be a closer. With 28 saves in 2016, he resolved the conflict between LG, which could not find a suitable closer at the time. However, since then, he has suffered from injuries and has not played a significant role. After taking the mound in two games in 2018, he was unable to take the mound in the first division.
Infielder Seo Geon-chang will also leave LG. Seo Kun-chang conquered 200 hits (201 hits) in a season for the first time in Korean professional baseball when he was with the Nexen Heroes in 2014. Since then, he has consistently shown good batting ability and reigned as a top-class second baseman.
However, Seo Geon-chang, who moved to LG in 2021, has gone downhill sharply since 2022. This season, he played only 44 games and hit .200.
Outfielder Lee Chun-woong has emerged as a hope for LG's batting average of .308 and 168 hits in 2019. However, it fell short of expectations as it fell behind in the main competition afterwards. Last year, he was sent to the prosecution on charges of illegal Internet gambling, effectively ending his career.
Meanwhile, Chung Ju-hyun, who played well as LG's backup infielder this season, announced his retirement. Chung Ju-hyun, who made his debut in the first division in 2009, has only played for LG until this year. He also played in 89 games this season, batting average.273 had one home run and 12 RBIs.
