OLHMS Hosts Veterans Day Assembly

Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School recently hosted a Veterans Day Assembly for all the commmunity and all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. OLHMS staff welcomed local area vets to honor their sacrifice and service to our country. Student Ambasadors welcomed vets to the ceremony and the program started with the posting of colors by the Richards High School ROTC.

Volunteers needed for Annual Leaf Raking Day on Nov 12

Don't miss the 2022 Community Leaf Raking Event happening on November 12, 2022. All volunteers should report to OLHMS at 9am. Last year more than 120 volunteers came out to rake leaves for the elderly and those otherwise not able to do so in the Oak Lawn and Hometown Communities.

District 123 launches the Safe2Help crisis reporting system

District 123 has partnered with Safe2Help Illinois to give students a safe and confidential way to report potential threats or crises. Safe2Help was launched by the State of Illinois in December 2020 and aims to help prevent suicide, bullying, school violence and other threats to school safety. PBIS Tailgate Celebration

For the monthly positive behavior reward Kolmar students got to participate in a "backyard tailgate!" The field and playground were set up with different outdoor games like beanbags, frisbee golf, four square, and all different balls and equipment.

Happy Halloween!

This Monday, Covington's staff and students celebrated Halloween with our annual school parade! Students were very excited as they got to parade around the school with their costumes. Parents were invited to attend the parade to cheer on their students. The celebrations did not end there, shortly after students started their classroom celebrations and they where full of fun activties!

Halloween Parade Marches On

Lots of smiles, excitement, and a bit of spooky fog filled the air on Halloween morning at Sward Elementary School. Families lined up outside to watch the parade of students dressed in various costumes and themes. First responders, superheroes, witches, dinosaurs, clowns and more, Oh My!

Unity Day- We stand against bullying

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022 District 123 schools joined together to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Students wore the color orange to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Research shows that more than one out of every five students will be bullied in school this year (www.pacer.org).

A Chair That is Just Right!

The week before Halloween is always a fun time to do themed activities. Mrs. Paluch's class enjoyed many activities but their favorite was the STEM activity connected to the book Moldilocks and the Three Scares. Throughout the week, students completed vocabulary, sequencing and cause and effect activities related to the story.

OLHMS Host 4th Annual High School Fair

Last Wednesday, OLHMS held its 4th annual High School Fair! Mrs. Vanessa Follmar and the Counseling Department first started this initiative four years ago, and it has been a success every year. The goal of the High School Fair is to not only excite our families and students about their future school, but to help them forge a new path to endless possibilities.

OLHMS Donates Halloween Candy to Soldiers Overseas

For the second year in a row, staff and students at OLHMS are donating their extra Halloween candy to a good cause. Jacky's Soldiers was founded in 2003 by Jacky Connelly who wanted to send care packages to soldiers overseas. The care packages provided these soldiers with items such as deodorant, protein powder, books, and DVDs.
