Youth exchange can be a life changing experience – both for high school students interested in studying abroad, and for local families who are interested in opening their homes to an inbound exchange student for part of the school year. East Hampton Rotary offers the opportunity to study abroad or to host a student from another country.

Outbound Exchange

East Hampton High School students have the opportunity to study abroad in one of more than 30 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and South America through our local Rotary club. Because host families are volunteers the cost for Rotary exchange tends to be significantly lower than through private company programs. Rotary offers both a full school year exchange, and a short term, 3 to 4 week exchange over the summer. Students must be age 15 to 18 ½ August first of the exchange year. Interested? For long term exchanges apply in the Fall the year before you want to go abroad. (Fall 2022 for the 2023/2024 year). Short term exchanges have a quicker turnaround so apply by the end of April before the summer you want to go abroad.

Hosting

We are happy to announce that we have a student from Germany joining us for the 2022/2023 school year. She is 15 years old and loves sports (she plays basketball and swims). Rotary recruits three host families for each school year, so that the student has the opportunity to experience several environments during the year. We have a host family for the first three months but are looking for host families for November – March and March – June. Past host families have created lifelong connections with their exchange students. Considering studying abroad? Rotary exchanges are one-to-one exchanges, which means the families of outbound students host for part of the year their student is abroad.

Why should you consider exchange?

In addition to experiencing a new culture and making new international connections, study abroad looks great on a college application.

Graduation will be held at 6:00 PM.

Varsity Softball lost at North Branford 0-12. Their current season record is 4-7. They are scheduled to play at home vs Coginchaug on Monday, at H-K on Tuesday, home vs Wilcox Tech on Thursday, at Hale-Ray on Friday and at Valley Regional on Saturday.

Varsity Baseball did not play last week. Their current record is 7-6. They are scheduled to play at home vs North Branford on Monday, at home vs H-K on Tuesday, at home vs Valley Regional on Wednesday and at home vs Rockville on Friday where we will honor the senior members of the baseball program.

Junior Varsity Baseball did not play last week. Their current season record in 5-2. They are scheduled to play at Rockville on Saturday.

Varsity Golf was defeated by Valley Regional and The Morgan School. Their current season record is 0-4. They are scheduled to play at home vs Hale-Ray on Tuesday, at H-K on Wednesday and at Coginchaug on Thursday.

Girls Tennis lost to Old Saybrook 3-4 and The Morgan School 1-6. Their current season record is 1-11. They are scheduled to play at H-K on Monday.

Boys Tennis defeated Old Saybrook 6-1 and The Morgan School 4-3 . Their current season record is 6-3. They are scheduled to play at H-K on Monday, at Valley Regional on Wednesday and at Wilcox Tech on Thursday.

Track competed against Lyme-Old Lyme on Tuesday and at the Middletown Invitational on Saturday. They are scheduled to compete at the Running Rams Invitational on Friday.

Fall sports registration will open on FamilyID.com later in the spring. An announcement will be sent out when it opens.

FRESHMEN INFO:

Counselors began visiting your Guided Study Halls last week and will finish this week doing an interst inventory in Naviance.

JUNIOR INFO:

Juniors should check their calandars for individual meetings, including follow up meetings.

SENIOR INFO:

All students that have completed the transcript release form and shared it with your conselors in an appropriate time, your materials that you requested - letters of rec, transcript, and Mid-Year grades have all gone to your colleges (as indicated on your transcript release) via Naviance. If you recieve notification that the HS materials have not been sent- please know it takes a couple of weeks for them to match our materials with your application materials.

Distributions are listed below-

• Class of 2022 (Seniors) will remain with your counselors for next year- completing your four years with Mrs. Catlin (A-K) or Ms. Malcolm (L-Z).

• For ALL other students Classes of 2023 and beyond your counselor will stay with you for your entire high school journey.

• Mrs. Sullivan will have students A-D in grades 9-11

• Mrs. Catlin will have students E- M in grades 9-11

• Ms. Malcolm will have students N– Z in grades 9-11

1. Log in to Naviance,

2. Go to the college tab on the very top center of page

3. Select scholarship and money

4. Select scholarship search for our local and regional scholarship list.

5. Click on See More Details button for more info about each scholarship

6. Read description carefully to see if you qualify

7. Click on Download Application Button or Apply Online Button, whichever is available for that particular scholarship.

8. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR EACH SCHOLARSHIP

Some scholarships will want you to apply online and submit online others will need you to download the application and email it to them directly and others will require you to email them to me. Please read the directions and descriptions carefully!

It’s time to pre-order your 2021-2022 East Hampton High School Yearbook! The Yearbook Club has been hard at work making sure this year’s book captures all the wonderful activities and happenings around school that we have missed out on with the past two turbulent years. By purchasing a yearbook, you will also have a way to remember both your friends and teachers without masks!

Parents! We are also beginning our Parent Ad sales which allow you to purchase an ⅛, ¼, ½, or full-page advertisement in the yearbook to dedicate to your student. This is a great way to help support Yearbook Club in funding our professional pictures year after year and keeping our hardcover, full-color yearbook at a reasonable cost. Parent Ads are a great way to memorialize family pictures and notes to your students for years to come as well!

Recently we have been having some issues with student dismissals from school and in particular, being dismissed due to illness without first going to the nurse. We ask that parents familiarize themselves with our attendance policy which is in the EHHS Student Handbook. Some of the main policies/procedures that we are asking for parents’ to help in adhering to are.

• EARLY DISMISSALS: A written request (no phone calls) from a parent or guardian must be presented to the main office before school begins so student may obtain an early dismissal slip. Students will wait in the main office for their parent/guardian to call the office and we will send your child out to meet you after they sign-out.
• NURSE DISMISSALS: In case of illness during school, dismissal will be arranged through the school nurse, or in her absence, through the office. Students feeling ill should report directly to the nurse's office. Students should not be texting or calling home when not feeling well.

Please note that having a parent’s written request before the start of the day allows the students name to appear on the Daily Attendance sheet so their teachers will be aware that they may not be in class on that day. This also eliminates the office staff from calling in and disrupting a classroom to dismiss the student. We do realize that there may be occasions when you may need to unexpectedly pick your child up early. In those cases we will call the student down when the parent/guardian arrives to the school
