The Weekly Update
La Mesa Junior High --February 3, 2023
Principal's Message
Greetings Lobo Families!

We are One Hart, with our goal to make Every Student...Opportunity Ready!
What a great week here at La Mesa! We hope your child was able to attend the Winter Formal this past Friday afternoon and that it lived up the hype for each of our students.
This past week, we also "kick" started our lunchtime Intramural soccer season and it has been a great turnout and the students are really engaging and making a great tournament. Along with that, we had our Counselors come out with picnic style games in the quad on Friday! That, with music, was a bi hit and it really made Friday feel like a great way to start the weekend!
This coming week is Counselor Appreciation Week! Please take some time to write your student's Counselor to show your appreciation for the countless hours they spend pouring into their lives. We all hope our Counselors feel appreciated this week! https://sites.google.com/hartdistrict.org/lamesacounseling/home?pli=1
Please use the drive through loop to drop and pick up your students. It is becoming extremely unsafe in the following areas:
Drop off & Pick up
1. Cars are stopping in the merge lane in front of the campus. This is a "no stopping" zone and is there for a reason. If you are picking up your child in the neighborhood, please have them walk to the top of the hill and you can meet them at a location other then this "No Stopping" area.
* It is only a matter of time until an accident occurs as there have been several close calls.
2. Please do not have your student cross the street as there is no crosswalk and there is not room for a car to stop on the street and allow vehicles to drive on the lane.
There are a lot of opportunities and information in this weekly update and I hope you take the time to stay connected with La Mesa and all the events coming.
Opportunities for Student Help
* Tutorial Time every Tuesday and Thursday
A great opportunity during the school day! Your student just needs to sign up for the Teacher they
need help.
* Open Library Night
These times will continue every Monday and Thursday moving forward. During this time, there are teachers available to help students should they need, but most importantly, this is great place for your student to complete homework, makeup work, or just have a quiet place to work...but also FREE Tutoring from teachers here at La Mesa!

February is Black History Month
One of the most famous African American authors is Maya Angelou. Born in 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri, Angelou is a celebrated poet, writer, and civil rights activist. She is best known for her series of seven autobiographies, starting with "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" (1969), which detail her experiences growing up in the Jim Crow South and her journey to becoming a successful writer and performer. Angelou was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement and worked with Martin Luther King Jr. She is also a well-respected poet, with collections such as "And Still I Rise" (1978) and "Shaker, Why Don't You Sing?" (1983). Angelou's works explore themes of race, identity, and resilience, and her writing continues to inspire generations of readers and writers.
