5th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
Looking Back -
What fun it was exploring our solar system and the movements of the Earth and moon as we move around the sun. Let’s keep that curiosity going about space even as we move on to other topics – such as electricity and magnetism! (See Looking Ahead)
Looking Ahead –
We start our unit on electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetism with a foundation of the nature of electric charges and how magnetic poles are observed in the world. We will move on in the coming weeks to investigate more about magnets, electric currents, and all the applications of this information in our daily lives. Shocking! (ha, ha)
Special Note: You will see two more Stride Science lessons on your weekly schedule. Try to devote one hour (or two 30 minute sessions) to these lessons each week.
Science News for the Week: Do zombies really exist? In the world of science, there are creatures (sometimes tiny creatures) that control the behavior of other animals. We know them as parasites, and they are often quite clever in getting their hosts to do their bidding. No, parasites don’t come back from the dead, but read this article to see what kinds of amazing things they can control.
