Superintendent's Update

This was a very uplifting week for me as Superintendent of Cecil County Public Schools. On Tuesday, we recognized 31 employees who achieved 30, 35, and 40 years of service in CCPS. We have not been able to have this recognition event since 2019 because of COVID, so it was extra special to gather in celebration for each of these individuals who have given so much of themselves to CCPS.

Following that, I had the privilege of speaking to and meeting with students participating in the Youth Leadership Summit. This event not only further develops our student leaders but the outcome of the work will also directly impact our schools and our county as a whole as students develop their school plans for drug prevention and awareness. I look forward to seeing the billboards developed by the students that will be on display around the county in the near future! You can read more about the summit below.

Opportunities such as these always bring things back into perspective for me, especially following the Thanksgiving holiday. Our students are why we do what we do and the employees of CCPS are second to none. I am so very thankful for the moments that remind me of these important facts.

I would be remiss if I did not recognize our outgoing Board of Education members, Christie Stephens and Bill Malesh. Their time on the Board has made an impact on the school system that will be felt for years to come and I cannot thank them enough for their relentless dedication on behalf of our students and staff.

Budget preparation for fiscal year 2024 is underway. A critical part of the budget development process is to collect and review input from CCPS employees, parents, and students.

The 2022 Youth Leadership Summit was held Tuesday-Friday of this week. A total of 47 high school students participated during the four-day conference and were joined by 34 eighth graders on Thursday. The theme for YLS this year was Empowered to Transform. The goal of the annual YLS is to equip, inspire, and transform students as leaders and to empower them to transform their communities. During the summit, each individual school group created an action plan, and created posters and slogans that will be transformed into anti-drug messaging that will be seen on billboards and television advertising throughout the area. This event was sponsored by Cecil County Public Schools, Youth Empowerment Source (YES), Drug Free Cecil, Cecil County Sheriff's Office, and the Cecil County Health Department.

The next community update meeting for the NEMS/NEHS Construction Project will be held on 12/6 @ 4PM in the Carver Center Board Room. In-person attendees are welcome & the presentation will also be live-streamed. Submit questions prior to the meeting HERE.

CCST is selling raffle tickets, $1 per ticket, for the CCST Corn Hole Boards! All money raised will be used for the Class of 2023 CCST Educational Awards. This money can be used to help pay for college or to help purchase tools for a student's intended career path.
