Cucinella Weekly Wrap-Up #22
Week of February 12, 2024
"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try." — John F. Kennedy
Week Twenty Two:
Even with the unexpected snow day on Tuesday, Cucinella remained vibrant with exciting activities and events throughout the week. Monday saw the building buzzing with discussions about the thrilling Super Bowl game, with plenty of Chiefs gear proudly displayed to celebrate the champions. Wednesday brought Valentine's Day, and amidst the learning, teachers managed to orchestrate homeroom parties where students exchanged Valentine's cards and enjoyed the festive spirit. Additionally, PTO volunteers generously showered the staff with treats in the staff lounge as a token of appreciation for our wonderful staff. Thank you to the Cucinella PTO for all the support you show our staff!
On Thursday, our 2nd grade students capped off their civic leaders' unit by presenting their projects and going on gallery walks to other homerooms. Students took turns sharing their projects and teaching their classmates about the leaders they researched and their impact on American society. Throughout this engaging curriculum, our young learners explored the lives and contributions of remarkable civil leaders who have made a lasting impact. We're especially proud of the remarkable learning demonstrated by our 2nd graders as they immersed themselves in this important subject matter. Through thought-provoking lessons, hands-on activities, and creative projects, our students are developing a deep understanding of the importance of standing up for what is right and making a positive difference in their communities.
Friday we had another assembly. This time we had Marisa from the NED Show speak to our students about NED's Mission Mindset! The assembly taught our students the benefits of a positive attitude and mindset. The program also helped our students understand how their brain can grow and help achieve their potential, embrace challenges, persists in the face of setbacks, and see mistakes and failures as a necessary step to grow and master useful skills. For more information about the assembly, click here. Thank you to the PTO for another engaging and informative assembly for our students.
Just a reminder, school will be closed this Monday, February 19th for Presidents' Day. We will reopen on Tuesday. Starting on Wednesday, our second grade students will be taking the CogAT assessment. CogAT stands for Cogitative Assessment Test and it helps to measure the level and pattern of verbal, quantitative, and spatial (nonverbal) reasoning abilities for students. These abilities reflect the overall efficiency of cognitive processes and strategies that enable individuals to learn new tasks and solve problems. Because these abilities are closely related to an individual’s success in school in virtually all subjects, CogAT test results are helpful in planning effective instructional programs and adapting instruction in ways that enhance the student’s chances of success in learning. Please remember to send your child in with their headphones and computer mouse.
We appreciate your ongoing support, and stay tuned for more exciting events and updates from Cucinella! If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me at cperruso@wtschools.org.

Outdoor Recess
Please keep in mind that even when the temperatures are very cold, we still make every attempt to get our students outside for recess. In conditions of extreme cold, we may not stay out for our full recess period, but we will take the students outside for a few minutes in order to provide them with much needed fresh air and some physical activity. Please be sure that the students are coming to school dressed appropriately. Sending students with coats, hats, gloves and other winter apparel is greatly appreciated.

Terracycle Fundraiser
WE WANT YOUR TRASH!!!
The PTO's Terracycle Committee has placed a new recycling collection box in the vestibule, to the left of the doors as you enter the building. The mission of this program is to collect home care and air care plastics, spray bottles and air fresheners. These are all items that would normally be thrown in the trash, but through Terracycle, we're able to keep these items out of landfills and raise money for the school in the process. This program will run throughout the school year, so start collecting your items to be recycled and contribute them to the collection box at your convenience.
For more information about this collection, visit https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/febreze-air-care?viewPDOInfo=false.
