A Note From The AAMU/UAH RIC Director

Greetings #ALRegion3 Educators,

Happy November! As I reflect on the things that I am thankful for, I must say I am thankful that I get to serve as your new AAMU/UAH Regional Inservice Center Director! To be quite honest, we must admit this year has been a little tough, but here's what I say to that... it’s so easy to get distracted and forget about all the wonderful things that you're thankful for, so this month, the AAMU/UAH RIC team would like to challenge you to participate in the #30DaysOfThankfulness challenge. Every day in the month of November, we challenge you to take the time to reflect on all of the reasons you are thankful and either:

1) Share them on social media.

2) Write them down in a gratitude journal.

3) Simply share your thoughts with a friend

As the AAMU/UAH RIC team reflected on all which we are thankful for, we decided that we are most thankful that we get to serve you! Without your hard work, tenacity, and commitment to K-12 education where would our students be?!?! Thank you so much for all that you do! Wishing you peace, wellness, and continuous growth!

Happy Reflecting,

Dr. Kisha Tolbert Simmons, NBCT

Director, AAMU/UAH Regional Inservice Center

Featured #ALRegion3 ASIM lab of the Month. -- Sylvania High School, Mrs. Fox’s Biology classes

ASIM lab M17OsmPlas - Osmosis and Plasmolysis in Onion Cells

In this lab, students will observe how purple pigmented cells visibly respond to the changes in the salt concentration of three different solutions. Sodium molecules are too large to pass through the cell membrane so the water moves in and out of the cell to help maintain the proper osmotic balance. Students will answer the following essential questions.

Essential Questions

  1. What happens to plant cells placed in salt solutions with different concentrations?
  2. How are those changes regulated by cell organelles?
