A note from Ms. Walsh
Happy Friday Mountain View. I hope everyone had a great week, and best of luck to everyone who is participating in the Harvest Hustle tomorrow! As Mrs. Toth shared in last week's update, we had an assembly today to kick off the Week of Respect with poet, actor, and psychologist Dr. Mykee Fowlin. The 7th and 8th graders viewed Mykee’s One-Man Presentation entitled You Don’t Know Me Until You Know Me which utilized the stories of different characters to explore core self-concepts many of us have been exposed to as well as to teach some important and tough life lessons. Mykee also shared some of his own life experiences with adversity and the mental health challenges he faced and overcame to become who he is today. The 5th and 6th graders viewed Dr. Mykee’s Even Small Crayons Make the Brightest Mark, a one-man presentation where Dr. Fowlin explored the importance of accepting the differences within us all and encouraging the students to recognize the power they all have within themselves by doing something as simple as helping people who feel alone to feel less alone. Some of the most important takeaways from Dr. Mykee’s presentations today were: Working to find the difference between what we are supposed to do in life and what we need to do in life, that our words have the power to make significant impacts on others, and that you cannot be replaced on this planet. Feel free to ask your children what they thought of the presentation and some of their takeaways from Mykee Fowlin.
Next week is the Week of Respect here at Mountain View. The Week of Respect is a week designated by the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights as a time for us to teach and remind students to respect our school, our community, ourselves, and others. The week of respect is also a time to focus on the prevention of harassment, intimidation, and bullying to ensure a safe and positive school climate for all students. Mrs. Toth shared the Week of Respect Spirit Week Flyer and all are encouraged to participate. Go Lions!
