Weaverville Elementary Families,

Wow! What a great start to the school yearIt was truly a fantastic week, which has me feeling super optimistic for the months ahead. Thank you, families, for supporting such a positive start to the year.

  • I know with the rise in cost of school lunch, we see many more students bringing their lunch. You can still support Weaverville Elementary by completing a lunch application, even if your child isn't eating lunch at school. Our school receives a lot of financial support (through Title 1 funds), which is based on the percentage of families that qualify for free/reduced lunch. Complete the lunch application to apply for free/reduced lunch. We have copies at our school or you can apply at www.lunchapplication.com.

  • All transportation changes must be in writing from the parent/guardian. This is an important safety measure for all students.

  • Car line was down to 25 minutes on Friday! This is a typical start to the year as students and families learn how car line works. Please be patient with us; we are doing everything we can to get students to their cards both efficiently and safely.

  • Please consider signing up for the Weaverville Schools PTO Directory. You can share your volunteer interests, and you'll get directions about how to officially sign up as a volunteer.

  • If you have a transportation change for your child, please remember it must be in writing. We know emergencies happen, but please do try to let us know before 1:00 pm. If it's after 1:00 pm, the email might get missed.

  • We would like to ask that families not check their children out between 1:55 pm and 2:25 pm. We will post a sign at the front door asking you to wait until dismissal. Our staff, especially teachers, have a lot of things to wrap up before the day ends, and when many parents are checking students out early, it can be very disruptive to the last 30 minutes of the day in a classroom.

  • Our first PTO meeting of the year is this week on Thursday, September 8th. We will meet in person at 8:15 am at Weaverville Primary, and a ZOOM recap will be hosted at 6:15 pm. ALL PARENTS are members of the PTO! Please consider getting involved.

WvES families, thank you again for all you did to prepare for a smooth and successful first week of school. Our staff is grateful for our community and the support you show for us every day!

COVID Updated Protocols

  • If a student tests positive for COVID (at home or at a healthcare provider), they would isolate for 5 days from when their symptoms began. We will recognize the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS regarding the use of a face covering to be worn for days 6-10 upon return to school.

  • Our normal exclusionary symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting are in effect. If a student has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they must remain at home until symptoms are resolved for 24 hours.

  • Hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning protocols, and improved ventilation are all still priorities and important mitigating strategies.

  • Face coverings remain optional, to be worn by anyone at anytime.

  • Physical distancing such as 3 ft or 6 ft apart is no longer required.

  • Contact tracing is not required.

  • Following the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS, MAHEC will not be providing rapid antigen testing in our schools. Staff and families may order at home tests for free via this link: https://www.covid.gov/tests.

  • MAHEC will send home further guidance regarding when students need to stay home due to an illness.

  • For students where an absence is Covid related please indicate this in your parent or health provider's note.

  • Students/teachers will follow the same guidelines for makeup work as they would for any other illness or injury.

Exclusion Criteria
This document shows the reasons a student might be excluded from school due to illness.
