WRMS Weekly Update
April 23, 2021
School Health Information
According to the COVID-19 Regional Risk Matrix, Bergen County is an “orange/high risk” region, which requires public schools to follow specific protocols. Below is important information from the Department of Health that all staff, parents, and students must adhere to effective immediately.
Students and staff must stay home and notify the school nurse if they have:
Tested positive (viral test) for COVID-19 or are awaiting results because of symptoms or a close contact
Exhibit COVID-19 symptoms: Daily COVID-19 Home Screening Checklist for Students
Potential exposure to COVID-19:
Close contact with a person with COVID-19 in the past 14 days. (Close contact is defined as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.)
Travelled to an area with high levels of COVID-19 transmission in the past 14 days:
If someone in a student or staff member’s household exhibits symptoms, students/siblings/staff member must also stay home from school until the symptomatic individual receives a negative test result. If the symptomatic individual tests positive, the students/siblings/staff member will need to self-quarantine and must contact the school nurse for further instructions.
Updated Out of State Requirements:
The State of NJ has updated their travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. This webpage has the updated information.
Receiving Travelers
Families receiving guests from an area on the NJ travel advisory list are not required to quarantine their children.
Students only have to quarantine if someone in the house, resident or guest, becomes symptomatic and tests positive.
However, as a precaution, parents may choose to proactively self-quarantine their children.
Anyone who proactively chooses to self-quarantine must notify their school immediately.
If you have any questions on these protocols, please contact your school nurse directly as they are the most knowledgeable on our staff to answer your health and safety questions.
If the local health department calls, please answer the call and provide any requested information to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and community.

Next Phase
Things continue to go well with our increased occupancy. It's wonderful to have the student's back, and they and teachers overwhelming share it's great to be closer to normal!
With Fridays no longer needing to rotate as they have, we have updated our daily class schedules: Hybrid Schedule Overview - Revised. The weekly schedule will continue to be listed at the bottom of each weekly update. The overall day will continue, from 8:15 - 12:36 and 1:45 - 3:04, as it has, but which days are "forwards" (1-7) and "backwards" (7-1) will change.
Drop-off & Pick-up Information: (New information is in bold)
As is often the case in the first few days of school, families are still working out their routines for arrival and dismissal. Here are a few tips and friendly reminders to help:
- For drop-off and pick-up, students are now permitted to come in any entrance.
- Please use satellite locations and our excellent crossing guards for drop-off and pick-up. The Middle School Field's lot has a sidewalk that extends to the school. Also, crossing guards are available at 3rd Avenue and Pine Street, and 3rd Avenue and Mill Street.
- We have bike racks on both the 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue sides of the school. Please encourage your student to take advantage of this healthy habit!
- The 2nd Avenue entrance is the easiest entrance for our 6th grade students.
- The new ordinance only allows right turns from Pine Street onto southbound 3rd Avenue. This may be a great option for our families who need to travel in that direction.
- The new ordinance only allows right turns from the main lot from 7:30 - 9:00 AM and 2:30 - 4:30 PM on school days. If you are turning left, please create two exit lanes in the main lot, it was designed to accommodate this.
- Please remember that the Bus Loop is for busses only. This is closed to all other vehicles.
- If you are waiting in the field lot for your student, please pull into one of the empty spaces while you wait.
- As always, please look out for those helping with the flow of traffic and pedestrians!

The National Honor Society (NHS) is a selective organization of students who have excelled academically and demonstrated consistent character, leadership and service within their school and community.
NHS students are seniors who can provide extra help in various subjects. This year, during our Hybrid schedule, NHS students are available to meet individually with a limited number of middle school students via Zoom, Google Meet, Facetime, or phone call. Students who are having difficulty in a particular class, want to review before an assessment, or need help with a particular topic should reach out to their grade level Guidance Counselor for more information about how to get involved with the NHS Peer Tutoring program.
