McGovern News!
May 28, 2021
It was so fun to see many of our incoming kindergarten students at screening this week! Their energy and excitement was a joy to see. We can't wait to officially welcome them to McGovern next year.
Seeing students playing outside this week has truly brought smiles to everyone who is a member of our community. The weather and excitement has been particularly special this week. Mr. Shoenfelt spent time creating amazing structures (see the picture below) to hold students' masks while they are outside. I am so appreciative of his great idea and the time spent making the structures. It has streamlined our process for taking off masks and storing them during recess. Each student has a number that they use daily and we are already considering ways to use these, post pandemic! Thank you, Mr. Shoenfelt!
Though they may look different than in years past, we have a lot of exciting end of year events. Please see below for more information.
Finally, as we head into this Memorial Day weekend, please remember the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the US military. There is no school on Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day.
Best,
Amy McDonald, Principal

McGovern Spirit Week
Field Day
We will be looking for a very small group of 20 parents to help for the full day at McGovern School. The requirement is that you are able to arrive early to help set up, stay for the full day and then help with clean up. Due to the current pandemic, we are limiting the number of volunteers. All volunteers will need to sign an attestation and complete a CORI check before helping on the field.
MEPTO will send information about how to sign up if you are interested in volunteering.

Please visit this site for information about school/community COVID-19 health data, positive test reporting, student protocols, and local testing sites.
Meal Access for Remote Learners
As we prepare for more students to make their full return to school, remote meal distribution will now take place on Thursday mornings from 7 am to 9 am. Beginning Thursday, April 1, 2021 students who have opted for remote learning may pick-up meals at Medway Middle School on Thursdays from 7 am to 9 am at the Door # 24 on the Kelly Street entrance side of the building. A week's worth of meals will be offered during this pick-up date each week. Please see the food services website for menus. https://medwayschools.nutrislice.com/ Please contact Shawn Fallon at sfallon@medwayschools.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Dressing for Recess and Outdoor Time
Now that the weather is getting nicer, it is often cooler in the morning and there is up to 30 degrees difference by afternoon. Please be sure to dress your child in layers. Students can always take a layer off if they are hot, but the same can't be said if they are cold.
In addition, please be sure to apply sunscreen before school. Students are outside for 25 minutes and it does not take long to get a sunburn.
Finally, please be sure that students wear close toed shoes. Flip flops, sandals, and other open toed shoes are dangerous for recess and wellness classes that take place outside.
