A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Thank you again, to all of the families who have participated in any of the numerous school reopening and instructional model discussions, dating back to this summer, as members of the Hybrid Learning Task Force, Reopen Community Corps, LSAT, PTA, during parent forums or directly to administration. You are appreciated! This has been a team effort.
As we continue to prepare for Term 3, as described below in the “Term 3 Overview” and “Term 3 Family Information Forum PowerPoint”, we will continue to share updates with families, as available. Please remain mindful that we are continuing to offer in-person and CARE classroom seats to families. So, as you receive notification of any virtual classroom changes, that does not mean you will not be offered an in-person or CARE classroom seat. This process can only move as quickly as families accept or decline seat offers. In addition, we will continue to review available data and follow the guidance of DCPS and DC Health, to determine if or when additional in-person cohorts may be able to begin in the future. As you may have noticed, various cohorts have been introduced to the in-person setting, on a rolling basis.
Please see the special notice and link below, regarding our phenomenal guest speaker, Dr. Ivory Toldson. He will be presenting at the PTA meeting on Equity and Anti-Racism, in relation to understanding data, parent-school partnership, and the value of high expectations. We are working to make his book, “No BS (Bad Stats)”, available to several parents who attend the live session. Book distribution details will be forthcoming.
Please keep you and your loved ones safe. For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov. Please visit dcpsreopenstrong.com or backtoschool.dc.gov for DCPS virtual learning resources.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal

PREVIOUS UPDATES
Term 3 Overview
Our community will continue to work collaboratively and extend grace and flexibility to one another during these unprecedented times. In addition to supporting staff members and CARE classroom facilitators, the following classroom teachers are slated to return in-person for Term 3: Ms. Bailey, Ms. Malloy, Mr. Severs, Ms. Walsh, and Ms. Link.
In grades K-3, if your child is in the homeroom class of a teacher who will be teaching in-person and your child is not slated to return in-person, you will receive communication from Hyde-Addison during the week of January 25 to share who their re-assigned classroom teacher will be, if relevant. Neither the simulcast model in PreK nor the CARE classrooms in grades 4 and 5 will require any changes to class assignments.
We understand many families will have questions and appreciate those who were able to join either of the Term 3 Family Information Forums that were hosted this week. If you have additional questions, please email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov for the most accurate and timely information.
