A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Over the coming weeks, we hope to share DCPS guidance around the CARE classroom we are slated to open. When available, we will provide school specific updates, including the start date, the initial grade level being served and scheduling information. You may find DCPS In-Person Learning and CARE Classroom updates, using the DCPS Reopening Plans link, below.
Digital versions of the DCPS calendar are available on the DCPS website. See if you can spot Hyde-Addison ES students on the cover and on the 3rd page!
Please keep you and your loved ones safe. For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov. Please visit dcpsreopenstrong.com or backtoschool.dc.gov for DCPS virtual learning resources.

NEWS & UPDATES
Wonderful Wednesdays Return Next Week! 11/18
We are excited to launch Wonderful Wednesdays: Full STEAM Ahead! during Advisory 2.
What is STEAM?
STEAM is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Through a project-based learning approach, we will build on the Virtual Field Trip experiences offered in Term 1 to continue providing optional academic enrichment and social engagement for our students. Ms. Connolly will launch an inquiry project with the students each Wednesday morning that they can then explore throughout the day before reconvening to share.
Will there be Wonder Clubs or Mystery Reader?
No, instead we will be hosting Lunch Bunches or an Art Extension. Lunch Bunches will provide students in grades 2-5 with the opportunity to socialize in a less structured, supervised online space. Please note that, based on teacher availability, your child's lunch bunch may actually be a breakfast or a brunch bunch!
We will also provide PreK4-1st grade students the opportunity to practice their fine motor skills through an art extension with Ms. Zaid. To help your child join those activities, you can go to the classroom Canvas page or the HA Resource Hub on Canvas.
Will there be Schoolwide Meetings?
Yes! We will continue celebrating our students for uplifting our Core Values on Wednesday afternoons at 3:00pm. All are invited to join and the link can be found on the Wonderful Wednesday section of the HA Resource Hub on Canvas.
What are the times of each event?
9:00am- Full STEAM Ahead Project Launch
12:00pm- (time may be adjusted- look for communications from your class supervisor)- Lunch bunch for 2-5 OR Art Extension PK4-1
2:00pm- Full STEAM Ahead Share Out
3:00pm- Schoolwide Meeting
What if I have gotten an email about my child being in a small group on Wednesdays?
We will be working with many different small groups of students on Wednesdays to provide individualized supports. If you receive an email from a Hyde-Addison staff member about scheduling a time for small group or 1:1 meeting times on Wednesdays, please make it a priority.
Don't forget that every child should log into Canvas to watch a morning message video from their homeroom teacher and to see what asynchronous work they have been assigned.
Please Fill Out One Survey Per Child
Please encourage all DCPS families to complete one survey per child, not per household, in their preferred language. The Grant Administration team will be collecting surveys for our initial application through Tuesday, December 22. For questions, please contact DCPSImpactAid@k12.dc.gov.

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Support the PTA!
Did you know that there are many ways to support Hyde-Addison and that 100% of the proceeds from the PTA's fundraising initiatives go directly to the school? As we prepare for the eventual return to in-class learning, we are grateful for donations of any amount - whether at once or on a recurring basis - to fund critical health and safety measures (e.g., masks, hand sanitizer, plexiglass dividers) as well as instructional materials. Also, don't forget to link your Amazon account and other loyalty programs to the Hyde-Addison PTA, and ask your employer about any gift matching programs!
