PINK OUT DAY FOR CANCER RESEARCH -- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27
BLUE PAW EPIC PARTY OF THE CENTURY- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20TH 🎉✨
Grades 2-5 that have made Blue Paw will be participating in what we are calling, the Blue Paw Epic Party of the Century. 🤩 The Waynesville Rec Center will be coming and bringing games such as Jumbo Gaga ball, corn hole, etc. Students that were chosen as a Blue Paw winner will get to participate in this event. Next 9 weeks, students will have more of an opportunity to be Blue Paw since we didn't start until after Labor Day for the first 9 weeks. Students are chosen every two weeks and must be present each day with no tardies or checkouts, complete all work and homework, and be respectful in class while following directions. For the 2nd 9 weeks, students that make Blue Paw (they get a certificate, candy, and a sticker when their name is given) and end up getting an Educator's Handbook record for not following the rules, will not be able to participate in the Blue Paw Party at the end of the 9 weeks. We need students to behave all the time- because it is the right thing to do, not just for two weeks at a time in the Blue Paw window. Blue Paw is for the best behaved and most improved!
Lost and Found
Our lost and found is overflowing. Please encourage your child to check the lost and found. Parents are welcome to check the lost and found before school begins at 7:15 to 8:00. All clothes will be donated to the Goodwill or Salvation Army the first week of November if they haven't been claimed. We will "clean out" each 9 weeks. Thanks!
Earthquake Drill Next Week
We will be having an Earthquake Drill next week. This is a requirement from the state that this is completed. Students will be advised to go to the hallway, away from windows and assume earthquake drill position. It is a brief drill that we do annually.
Kids Heart Challenge ❤️
More Kids Heart Challenge Information will be coming!
We will officially kick off the Kids Heart Challenge (KHC) with the American Heart
Association on October 30th, and we need your help! Over the next few weeks students will be learning about heart health and raising awareness for the American Heart Association.
Our school's goal is for every student and family to know Hands-Only CPR and the
warning signs of a stroke by completing Finn’s Mission!
PARENTS – HERE’S HOW TO GET STARTED
Step 1. Visit our school’s Kids Heart Challenge page OR download the AHA Schools
app for iPhone or Android to search for our school and sign up!
Step 2. Complete Finn’s Mission!
During the Kids Heart Challenge, your student can earn Heart Heroes who teach them ways for
their heart to be healthy! Make sure to check these out on the KHC letter your student is
bringing home October 30th.
Why we support the American Heart Association: When cardiac arrests occur outside of the
hospital, bystanders only respond 40% of the time. 75% of cardiac arrests occur in the home.
Providing Hands-Only CPR immediately can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.
Thank you for joining us and helping our community become lifesavers!
Blue Paw Update 🐾
Beginning the second nine weeks, students in grades 2-5 will have the opportunity to be Blue Paw every other week like the first 9 weeks. They are chosen for Blue Paw if they haven't been tardy, absent, or checked out, have had great behavior, and have turned in all their work. The difference in this 9 weeks is that our large "party" or "reward" at the end of the 9 weeks will be just for Blue Paw students that haven't had any office referrals or instances in our Educator's Handbook discipline system. It truly is an incentive for the above mentioned, not just for good behavior and attendance for a two week period, but for the nine weeks.
Book-a-Ween 🎃
On Tuesday, October 31st, we will be celebrating Halloween with our annual Book-a-ween treat for students! On this day, students are allowed to wear their costumes to school, but please nothing scary and no full face masks. During the morning, students will be traveling with their grade to listen to different teachers and staff share books. Students will also be receiving a special book treat!!
