This online premiere of the students’ work is part of a new HIKI NŌ on PBS Hawaiʻi initiative to foster student engagement through the sharing of stories on a digital platform. Their story will later be curated into a half-hour HIKI NŌ broadcast episode that will air on PBS Hawaiʻi at a later date. Their outstanding work will now reach two different worlds: the online realm and the broadcast audience.

Localicious Recipe Contest
WHAT SCHOOL LUNCH MEAL WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN YOUR SCHOOL CAFETERIA?
The contest runs through September 22, 2023.
The contest is a fun cooking competition to educate and inspire kids about the importance of supporting local farmers and producers and making sustainable food choices. To participate, students must submit an original recipe of a school lunch meal they would like to see in their school cafeteria. Recipes must include at least one locally-grown, raised or caught product with additional points awarded for dishes that include vegetables, fruits, grains and/or beans. A culinary professional will review and select the top three (3) recipes from two grade categories: Grades 4-8 and 9-12.
The top three finalists in each grade category will be notified in early October and invited to prepare and present their dish in front of a live audience for tasting and scoring by three judges at the Hawai‘i Gas Presents Localicious® Recipe Contest Cookoff at the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival’s Keiki in the Kitchen event in Honolulu, Hawaii. Each finalist will receive a $50 gift card to purchase ingredients needed for the final cookoff. Celebrity chefs will serve as judges and determine the winners in each category.
Cash scholarships will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in grades 9-12 and cash gift cards will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in grades 4-8. Winners will be announced at the live Cookoff event during Keiki in the Kitchen on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Bishop Museum.
