2019-20 Calendar Revisions Eliminate Early Release Days
2019-20 Calendar Revisions Eliminate Early Release Days
The Board of Education recently approved 2019-20 calendar revisions that will eliminate six early release days and two half days for students, and replace them with four full days off. This change was recommended by a committee of teachers, parents and administrators who studied how to create more quality professional learning opportunities for elementary school teachers. After looking at many options, the committee recommended full days to the Curriculum and Instruction Board Advisory Committee, which also includes parents and teachers. Both groups were in favor of making this change prior to the 2020-21 school year, due to the positive impact it is expected to have on students, families and teachers.
The 2019-20 calendar changes are as follows:
No early release days on Sept. 18, Nov. 6, Dec. 11, Jan. 15, Feb. 5, April 1
Sept. 10 - Elementary intake conferences (move from Sept. 4)
Sept. 13 - No school K-12, professional learning for teachers (move from Sept. 27)
Oct. 18 - No school K-12, professional learning and records day for teachers (previously a half day for students)
Oct. 21, 23 - Middle school conferences
Oct. 22, 24 - High school conferences
Nov. 1 - No school K-12, professional learning for teachers
March 13 - No school K-12, professional learning and records day for teachers (previously a half day for students)
May 1 - No school K-12, professional learning for teachers
