THE NEXT CHAPTER - Sixth Grade - with Mrs. Stieber
The sixth graders in Mrs. Stieber’s The Next Chapter course have been working through Unit One: Why Do People Love Reading? Within this unit, students have been exploring various written works, like the play version of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving in SCOPE magazine, focusing on suspense and why this literary element propels an audience to continue reading. Students have also been reading Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos, where we explore how relating to and empathizing with main characters in a story keep an audience interested in reading. Just before students break for the holidays, we will transition into Unit Two: Who Do You Love While Reading? To begin this unit, students will be reading a shortened play version of the classic “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, where students will meet the timeless character of Ebenezer Scrooge and will delve into the world of dynamic characters and influential authors within various types of literature. These students have been doing an exceptional job reading, discussing, and sharing about books so far this year, and I look forward to going into the new year with them, continuing our search for a love of reading for all!
Choral Winter Concert
Log College's singers brought the house down in last week's Winter Choral Concert. Be sure to stop by this week on Wednesday evening to see our talented musicians perform with their instruments.
Baking Competition Winners
Congratulations go out to Brynn M., Alison R., Melanie W., Riley Y., and Jasani T. for winning the Baking Club competition! They wowed the judges with their Grinch Cookies! Great job!
Students of the Month
Congratulations to Log College Middle School's November Students of the Month! These students were selected by their teachers for exemplifying Living Safely, Owning Responsibility, Giving Respect, and being hard-working and conscientious students. This month’s winners include Reid S., Sydney M., Patrick D., Melanie M., Jada B., Tyler J., Alexis J., Matthew C., Abigail B., Ruben O., Wilfrand O., and Charleen G. Keep up the great work everyone!
It's time to show your LOG COLLEGE SCHOOL SPIRIT by participating in FLANNEL FRIDAY, this week, Dec. 8th. It's very simple for everyone to participate. All students are asked to wear their coziest flannel! The team that shows up with the most team spirit will earn points towards Field Day!
Winter Sports
Dear Log College Families,
Winter Sports season is quickly approaching here at Log College. The Winter sports season runs from November through February and features four sports open to our 7th and 8th-grade students. Log College will be offering Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, and Cheerleading. We are pleased to announce that, for the first time (if enough students try out), we will have Junior Varsity (JV) teams for both boys and girls basketball, providing more students with the opportunity to participate in winter sports. It's important to note that these are not exclusively 7th or 8th-grade teams but are composed of a mix of both grades.
If your child is planning to participate in any of these sports, he/she must have a physical. No student may play or practice until a physical has been received.
PIAA sports physical -
All students must have a completed PIAA physical (dated after June 1, 2023). The physical forms can be downloaded from the link - PIAA Physical Form - Updated 3/22/23 (or you can pick one up from Mr. Corey, our athletic director or any LCMS coaches).
If you have already played a sport in the Fall, you do not need to complete a new physical, but you must re-submit section 7 (Re-certification by parent/guardian) from the PIAA physical form. This page does not require seeing a doctor or medical provider.
If you did not submit a PIAA physical in the Fall, you must complete Sections 1 to 5 within the PIAA sports physical packet. This must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian. Section 6 must be completed by an authorized medical examiner (family doctor, urgent care, minute clinic). You can ignore pages 7-8.
If you cannot find an appointment time with your doctor, you may use another provider or visit a CVS Minute Clinic or visit an Urgent Care center. The Centennial School District has a partnership with Liberty Urgent Care:
If you use any of the following Liberty Urgent Care centers and mention Centennial SD, your physical will only cost $20. (Locations listed below)
