NEW Science Superhero Academy (replacement for Olympiad)
The Science team shared the new Science Superhero Academy with coaches before Spring Break and with teachers at the Life Make and Take Academy night. This is an optional review tool that was designed to replace the Science Olympiad Standards review. The SSA has the same flexible format as Olympiad to allow grade 5 teams to select the content that their students most need to review ahead of the Science Standards Assessment. The 2022 Missions are completed for Nature of Science, Physical Science, Earth, Space and Weather. Missions 1-20 are ready to use. Missions 21-28 include the life missions. This is content that was just taught. We will be finalizing the missions in the next few weeks for Life.
Science Superhero Academy SSA Review 2022
The missions include a complete PPT with embedded videos, text, task directions and quick writes. Each mission’s folder has a student guide with practice multiple choice questions and teacher guide with answers. There is also a study guide that reviews all of the annually assessed standards and a full mock practice assessment. We have also added 12 context dependent questions so that students can practice with the extended question scenarios.
The Science team will host two Zoom ‘office hours’ after Spring Break that teachers can join to see an overview of ask questions about the new Science Superhero Academy: April 11th 4:30-5:30pm and April 7 8:00-900 am. Zoom links will be sent in email reminder on April 7th.
We are also providing a feedback form that can be used for any teacher/coach to provide feedback or suggestions for any of the missions. Since this is the first year we are using them, feedback will help us refine the missions.
Keep in mind that all the Olympiad resources will remain accessible for all.

Social Studies
April is Financial Literacy Month. Which is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach our students how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. To celebrate the month and encourage our students to be financially smart citizens in our communities, Pasco County Schools, in partnership with our valued community partners will offer virtual experiences and opportunities throughout the month. These events are designed to help parents/guardians, employees, community members and students with financial planning matters and getting more information for starting a financially successful future. Fun facts and resources will pop up throughout the month in myLearning to encourage Money Matter Mondays.
Teachers will also have the opportunity to sign up for virtual learning opportunities for themselves, as well as to have the opportunity to sign their classes up for guest speakers that will support the learning of the month.
To help celebrate the month with lessons, tasks, texts and ideas to spark discussion, please visit our district Financial Literacy webpage.
