We Are Called
Feb. 4, 2022
From Mrs. Rhodes
It seems that Catholic Schools Week often gets interrupted by the weather. I am sorry this happened and regret that inconveniences that it causes. At least we were wise and moved the donut days. The staff really does appreciate all that you do to support us.
By the end of next week, we will be in the middle of February! Next year, February parent conferences will be back to a 10 hour day where we can meet with everyone - but this year, we have them on Friday, Feb. 18 within a regular school day schedule. If the teachers are requesting a conference, they will send you the link. If you would like a conference, please reach out and get on the schedule. I feel strongly that we should meet with every family at least twice a year, but I also like to have full weeks of school. This year the schedule just seemed to be better with only one day off before President's day.
Thanks to those who have taken care of enrollment or reached out. I have attached the preliminary calendar for the 2022-23 school year at the bottom. Enrollment is one of the first planning elements that gets the year under way. There is plenty of time to change how fees or tuition is paid of if needed, just call the FACTs parent line. Just a reminder that applications for financial assistance is due March 31. For those that pay with an invoice, you can pay that way or here is a link to pay fees.

THANK YOU SHOJ FAMILY
With our deepest gratitude, we extend our heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of donations and prayers following our recent house fire. We are truly overwhelmed by the love, support and care shown to us.
We are in the process of finding temporary housing and will keep you abreast of our progress. Please be assured of our prayers for your family, too.
And now these three things remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Dear Families,
As 2022 begins, the Rosary Ministry at SHOJ School is back! We invite you to join in this beautiful practice of prayer during this semester and entrust your family, Sacred Heart of Jesus School, and all the school families into Mary’s care. Below are different ways to focus on bringing this prayer into your family life this semester:
January: we invite you to pray a Rosary as a family for Sacred Heart and all Catholic Schools as we celebrate Catholic Schools Week at the end of the month
February: there will be an opportunity for you to sign up to receive the name of a fellow SHOJ family to pray a Rosary for
March/April: we encourage you to gather with another SHOJ family to pray a Rosary
May: there will be an opportunity for parents/families to gather to pray a Rosary for the SHOJ community together
Some families may be accustomed to praying the Rosary together, while for others this may seem new and uncomfortable. A wonderful place to start is using the Holy Family School of Faith Daily Rosary podcast, during which the Rosary is prayed, with very relatable meditations shared between the decades. You can scroll through the podcast episodes here to find a topic that sounds intriguing.
This video also includes a brief history of the Rosary and an overview of how to pray it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuT7HI7ZvfA&ab_channel=BustedHalo%C2%AE) , and this link (https://www.dynamiccatholic.com/rosary/how-to-pray-the-rosary.html) includes the written prayers for a Rosary.
We hope the ways listed above will bring some new opportunities for your family to pray together this semester!

From the Counselor
Hello SHOJ parents!
It’s that time again!! The 2022 Kindest Kansas Citian contest is right around the corner and I can’t wait to feel the love in the building this spring through our student’s essays about the special people they nominate.
Here’s what you need to know about the contest:
I will be talking about the contest when I come in for lessons this month. If students want to participate, they need to submit a one-page essay and/or a drawing (see contest rules for age groups below) describing the KIND and caring ways of someone who is…
• 18 years or older
• NOT in their family
• Living in the KC metro area
The deadline for the submissions is Friday, February 11th.
Contest rules:
• Kindergarten through 2nd grade students are encouraged to draw a picture of their nominee and write a two sentence description about that person.
• 3rd through 5th grade students are encouraged to write a minimum of four sentences on their submission form describing their nominee.
• 6th through 8th grade students are encouraged to write a one page essay describing their nominee.
