Southwest Middle School fourth graders and one of our own local HAM radio operators, J. Ferguson, used radio energy to locate the “fox” (transmitter) hiding in the school yard! After a fun week of building their own Yagi style directional antennas out of metal tape measures and PVC pipe, every student used one to find the “fox”. Instructors, J. Ferguson and Sheryl McKenzie used this opportunity to discuss the science of radio, radio technology, and the importance of radio and energy transfer in world-wide and space communications.
