News from the Nest

One year ago today, our Township experienced tragedy. The days and weeks following the tornado were a blur, with virtually everyone pulling together to put temporary fixes in place for life to return to a state that mirrored normalcy, at least to the maximum extent possible.

A year later, there are still visual reminders of the tornado. Tarps on roofs, buildings under construction, and houses visible that were once hidden by trees. What we don’t always see is the hurt and pain people still feel because of what happened last September. We still have families displaced, and even though they have appropriate accommodations, their lives are still not back to normal. Many folks still recall being in the midst of the actual tornado, memories that may never fully fade.

Today we honor all who helped rebuild our community - physically and otherwise. And we also surround those still hurting. We are UD Stronger than ever before!

The Board of School Directors is looking for members of the UD community to fill a vacant seat. In our Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Board vacancies caused by resignation, death, moving out of the district or region, etc., are filled by an appointment process conducted by the remaining Board directors. If less than two years remain before the former director’s term expires, a director appointed to fill that vacancy serves for the remainder of the term. To comply with Pennsylvania law, our Board must appoint a qualified individual to fulfill the remainder of his term, which runs through early December 2023.
