Do Your Best on the Test!
Q: What are EOCs?
A: EOC stands for End of Course exam. They are meant to measure your understanding of the standards and concepts for the course you've completed.
Q: What subjects have EOCs?
A: Algebra 1, Biology, English 2, Government (Some A+ students are also taking Algebra 2)
Q: Do I have to take an EOC?
A: The Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) requires that all Missouri High School graduates have an EOC on file for all of the courses listed above. You cannot graduate in the State of Missouri without taking EOCs for these classes.
Q: What can I bring with me to the testing room (Library)?
A: A book to read when you're done with your test.
Q: What happens to my phone while I'm testing?
A: DESE rules state that you cannot have your phone, smartwatch, or airpods with you while you're testing. We'll bring shoe organizers to the testing room and have you place your electronics in a pocket. You can collect them when everyone in the room is done testing. (Students who use their phone to monitor their blood sugar must give their phone to a proctor, who can notify them if an alert is deployed.)
Q: What materials are provided for me?
A: We'll provide a pencil, scratch paper, calculator (if allowed on the test you're taking), dictionary/glossary/thesaurus (if allowed on the test you're taking), etc.
Q: When will I know how I did?
A: We hope to know the results of your multiple choice tests within 5 days of everyone completing the test. The performance events (Algebra 1, English 2) take longer and affect the overall performance level.
Q: Didn't you say something about EOC bets?
A: I did. I'll have slips of paper on my table next week. If you want to make a bet, fill it out and we'll see how you do - previous bet winnings have included me buying and delivering Sonic drinks, granting tardy forgiveness, and yes...one time I wore a kU shirt. It was GROSS.
Q: Why should I care about the EOCs?
A: Like I said earlier, EOCs are a way that we (and DESE, and the public) can measure how well our students are learning content and grade-level specific information. Every public HS student in the state of Missouri takes these tests, so it also lets us compare how our students are doing compared to how other Missouri students are doing. We will use results to adjust and improve our instruction for next year as well.
Q: How do I prepare for EOCs?
A: Get good rest the night before, Eat breakfast (it's free here - every day!), and do give it your best effort!
Sharing is Caring
Mrs. Shaw and the yearbook staff are looking for pictures of staff and students at school and school events. If you have pictures to share, please send them to rshaw@slaterschools.net.
Thank you!
Handbook Highlight
AUTOMOBILE RULES
1. Students are to park in designated student parking areas only – directly adjacent to Morgan Street, with all cars parked facing into school grounds. STUDENT PARKING IS NOT PERMITTED ON HAROLD, MORGAN OR LOCUST STREETS.
2. Students must buy a parking permit - $5.00. Students who were recognized as Students of the Month during the previous school year or who won spots on the HS's Field Day have assigned parking spaces that they may paint. Other spaces will be on a “first come – first serve” basis each day. * Any vehicle not having a “Hang Tag” may be towed at the student’s expense after the third warning. All vehicles driven to school are to be registered in the school office. If you should change vehicles during the school year, you are to report the new vehicle to the office.
3. Students are not permitted to go to vehicles without first receiving permission from the office.
4. Students are not permitted to sit in their vehicles during school hours, including lunch periods.
5. Students are not permitted to park directly in front of the Early Childhood Center or on the grass area behind the weight room.

Take a minute to let me know all about it by filling out THIS FORM.

Tick Tock
We will ask Seniors to stop by the HS Office at the beginning of the week to confirm the spelling of their name for their Diploma so we can get them ordered.
Speaking of Graduation...remember:
- Your attendance must be at least 90% to walk at the Graduation ceremony.
- Your Diploma must contain your legal name. At the ceremony, I can call your name as whatever you request - full name, first and last only, Andy instead of Andrew...
Authorized Use
The loaner Chromebooks are to be used by students whose machines are being repaired.
If you have lost or forgotten your machine, you are on your own. You are still responsible for completing the work that was assigned - you just may get to do it on paper. Welcome to 1994. It was a good year. :)
Restricted
We need that area for District vehicles and staff members.
Thank you!
