5 Strong HBCU Scholarship
To be eligible for the 5 Strong program, all applications must:
- Reside in the Houston metropolitan area
- Be a current-year graduating high school senior
- Demonstrate the potential to be a leader in the classroom and on campus
- Have earned a GPA of at least 3.0 (Some HBCU Partners GPA requirements are higher)
- Have a minimum ACT score of 19 or a combined SAT score of 990 for both Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections (Some HBCU Partners test score requirements are higher)
- Commit to becoming a member of 5 Strong and to attending your selected HBCU.
- Be available to attend all mandatory bimonthly College Ready Prep Sessions (in person in Houston when safe, remotely for now)

Marvy Finger Family Foundation Scholarship
Marvy Finger Family Foundation - Houston Scholarship Program (mfffscholarship.com)
Houston ISD graduating seniors who are seeking a Career and Technical education pathway. The scholarship covers the cost of a recipient’s tuition, fees, books, and program equipment for two academic years at an approved Houston-area Community College.
Eligibility:
- Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States
- Be an HISD student
- Meet the federal definition of low socio-economic status or be eligible for free or reduced lunch
- Have achieved a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) or 3.0 for all Health Science programs
- Complete the FAFSA application and submit SAR (Student Aid Report).
JUNIOR ACHIEVER AWARD
The purpose of the BAFTX Junior Achievers award is to provide a summer study program in the UK for academically adept students from low income families in Texas.
Applicants must:
Be resident in Texas
Be enrolled as a full time High School Junior within the Texas education system;
Come from a low income household;
Be in possession of a valid passport or eligible to receive one;
Maintain a competitive GPA and hold an excellent school attendance record;
Be able to attend a brunch with their families in Houston in March and be able to depart for the UK from Houston in July;
Be able to attend an Awards Dinner to receive the award in Houston in April 2022, subject to being able to gather safely given the COVID-19 pandemic.
The award takes the form of a 12 day residential course in Great Britain, normally during the first two weeks of July, where the student will receive an introduction to British culture. The British Studies Summer Program, delivered by ACS International Schools, will normally include visiting sites of historic, cultural and artistic importance such as the Houses of Parliament, Tower of London, the Globe Theater, Westminster Abbey and other cities such as Oxford, Portsmouth and Bath. A sample itinerary is available here. The scholarship includes air/ground transportation, accommodation, meals, health insurance, passport (if required) and a spending allowance.
Horatio Alger State Scholarship
To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled full time as a high school junior in the United States
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
- Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
- Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
- Be a United States citizen
2024 Horatio Alger Association State Scholarship
The undergraduate application is available from December 1, 2024 – March 15, 2025.
College Events
WashU FLI-In Dates
WashU FLI-In is a special small-group opportunity designed to introduce First-generation and Limited-Income students to the college application process and to WashU.
WashU will cover the cost of your roundtrip travel to and from campus, along with housing meals during your stay.
Students should choose the program that best suits their academic interest on the application. For each program, they will travel to campus on the first day of the program and stay overnight the first two nights. On the third day, students will participate in an Academic Theme Day with other prospective students.

Eligibility
· WashU FLI-In is an application-based program open to rising high school seniors (graduating in spring 2026) who reside in the U.S. or U.S. territories.
· We will give preference to students who are the first generation in their family to attend college or come from a limited-income household.
The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. CT, May 23, 2025.
Applicants will be notified of their decision by June 6, 2025.
Brown, Columbia, UChicago and Vanderbilt General Information Session in Houston
Admissions representatives from Brown, Columbia, UChicago, and Vanderbilt will hold a joint session for students about their respective universities and the highly selective college admissions process. Topics will include: academic programs, campus activities, student life, admissions policies and financial aid.

Texas Tech University - Clark Scholar Program
The Anson L. Clark Scholar Program is an intensive seven-week summer research program for twelve highly qualified high school juniors and seniors.
Program Benefits
- The Program at Texas Tech University helps the Scholars to have a hands-on practical research experience with outstanding and experienced faculty. The list of research areas for 2025 can be found here.
There are no program participation fees and the following is provided to participants:
On-campus meals
On-campus room and board
Weekend activities/programming
Expenses not covered by the program:
- $25 application fee
- Travel to and from the program location
- Personal expenses
- Medical expenses
The Program includes social activities and weekly seminars.
- Upon completion of a successful research project report, the Scholar will receive a $750 stipend.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be at least 17 years of age by the program start date, and should graduate in 2025 or 2026. (This means they will participate the summer before senior year or the summer after senior graduation of high school.) NO EXCEPTIONS - Emails requesting exceptions will not be answered.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Veritas AI Start-up Internship Program
In the Veritas AI Start-up Internship Program, talented high school students have the opportunity to work with VC-backed startups on real-world AI/ML projects. Over 8 weeks, students collaborate with founders from Harvard, Wharton, Google, Microsoft, and McKinsey & Company. This program is selective and some coding experience is required.
