Bonham Lady Warrior Athletics
October 2023 Report
Athletic Director Notes:
Fall Athletics compete to advance; Winter sports are on deck
Not only does October bring a change in calendar seasons, it also brings changes in high school athletics seasons. Volleyball, cross country, and football teams across the state are battling for a spot in the post-season. The grind that started last spring in the off-season and continued into summer conditioning has finally reached the pinnacle that we all work toward. On the other side, basketball and soccer teams are making preparations for their 23-24 season.
Go Warriors and Lady Warriors!

DRUG TESTING AND ELIBILITY REPORT
There is a list of requirements for participating in extra-curricular activities, and 2 of those are maintaining passing grades (No Pass / No Play) and passing a drug test. I am proud to say that in girls athletics at BHS and LHR, we combined for 96% passing at the 6-week grade check. I'm also proud to report that we were 100% passing in fall drug testing for all female athletes in grades 7-12. These are definitely victories that speak volumes about the kids in our program and the leadership of our coaches.
CROSS COUNTRY REPORT
It's been yet another successful regular season for our cross country teams. Recently, we wrapped up our final invitational meet of the year in Lindsay.
Varsity Boys - Runner-up
JV Boys - CHAMPS
JV Girls - CHAMPS
Varsity Girls - 4th
We have taken home a championship trophy or runner-up trophy in 5 of 7 invitational meets. The high school district meet will be held in Bells on Oct. 12th. The top 10 individuals and top 3 qualifying teams will advance to the regional meet.
The Jr. High district meet took place in Bells on Oct. 4th. We had 17 runners in our Jr. High program this season and the boys team took home the District Runner-up trophy. This is the 5th straight year that a district championship or district runner-up trophy has come home to L.H. Rather.
VOLLEYBALL REPORT
We defeated Leonard in straight sets in the round 1 finale of district play. Although it was our first district win, a couple of 5-set battles against quality opponents Blue Ridge and Pottsboro bring optimism to our varsity volleyball team as we begin round 2 of district play. On October 3rd we put together back-to-back victories with a 5-set nail biter over Blue Ridge. Our JV2 team also notched back-to-back district wins against Leonard and Blue Ridge. Our streak was broken by a very strong Gunter team on Oct. 6th, but there's still optimism in our locker room that we can battle for a post-season spot with a strong second half.
On Saturday, September 30th, we hosted a Jr. High A-team tournament on the BHS courts. Both of our high school gyms and parking lots were full and I received compliments from visiting parents about the meet and our beautiful facilities. I give a huge thank you to our high school and Jr. High volleyball coaches and their helpers for putting together a successful tournament. Our Bonham Lady Indians finished 3rd overall.
