Health Office Updates
- Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the US.
- The disease has no obvious symptoms at early onset and vision changes are gradual.
- Annual eye exams are the #1 preventative measure in preventing this disease.
- Please schedule annual eye exams for yourself and your students.
- If you need assistance finding a provider, please reach out to your school nurse.
- Vision screenings for students will be taking place at school for certain grades per DESE guidelines.
Health Tips
- Students should be dressed in layers..... Bundled up to stay warm while in the outdoors and able to take off heavier items when overheated indoors.
- Update flu shots and regularly washing hands to fend off germs.
- Keep students hydrated by sending a refillable water bottle with them to school.
- Serve your family warm, nourishing meals and promote a sleep routine to ensure plenty of rest to support your immune system.
- If your student is feeling under the weather, don't hesitate to reach out to the school nurse for guidance.

Physical Activities
Did you know that colder air boosts brain activity and improves focus? Furthermore, exercising in cold weather helps reduce inflammation and increases metabolism. Here are some ideas to get out and about during the cold weather this month:
Family Snowy Owl Prowl: Hike the dunes at Crane's Beach to search for owls while taking in the beautiful sights. More Info HERE

Appleton Farms: Located in Beverly/Hamilton, Appleton Farms offers weekend programming for all ages as well as cross country skiing. More info HERE
