Planning Ahead in the East Moline School District
In the next two weeks, the East Moline School District will embark on a journey as a group of stakeholders from across the district and community will begin the process of identifying our strategic priorities. Working together with members of our school community, we will create a shared vision for the East Moline School District for the next few years. We will identify the strengths of the school district, the critical issues that we will face in the future, and our priorities as a learning organization.
On behalf of the East Moline School District Board of Education, I invite you to participate in our strategic planning initiative through community forums and surveys that will help us identify the critical issues and priorities moving forward. It is only by working together that we can achieve great success. Input from our parents, students, employees and the community will be critical in helping us realize a vision where every child will achieve success on a daily basis in the East Moline School District.
The East Moline School District is a success story in progress. Our story is not yet written but the draft of our work is informative on what is possible when families, educators, and a willing community come together to support all students in creating equitable access and opportunity. We look forward to our strategic planning committee cultivating the vision of our community and presenting our strategic priorities to the Board of Education on April 22, 2024. Together, we do better!
Sincerely,
Chris Van Speybroeck, Board of Education President
Welcome home to these former EMSD #37 students
Aubrey Sherrod-Butler, Instructional Aide at the East Moline Early Learning Center
"Hi my name is Aubrey Sherrod-Butler, being a previous student in the EMSD I have never encountered a negative experience while attending elementary and middle school in the EMSD. My experience has always been positive and all the teachers that I have had throughout the years were always loving and caring. As a staff member in the EMSD it still remains the same and I love all of the wonderful coworkers that I have met and I enjoy working with them!"
Sergio Hernandez, Spanish Bilingual Teacher at Glenview Middle School
"Being part of the activities that occurred inside and outside the classroom during my time at Glenview taught me a great many things. There are skills and learning strategies that I developed during this time that I still utilize to this day! The fact that I now get to be part of this journey for these students as part of the EMSD staff is a great honor. It is my goal to ensure that students are also able to experience the best of what this school has to offer."
Jessica Martinez, Special Education Instructional Aide at Glenview Middle School
"It is such a pleasurable and exciting experience to help out students, and work with staff (many of whom I had as teachers) in the same environment I received my education. I am ecstatic to see what the future holds for me here at EMSD37. I hope to create a safe and stimulating environment for our students to thrive in just as I had while attending."

Meet the newest member of the Board of Education
On August 21, 2023, Joann Snelling was appointed to fill the open seat on the Board of Education. Joann previously served the East Moline School District as an employee for over 30 years. However, Joann's story started long before when she attended our schools as a student and her parents worked for the East Moline School District.
"I believe in public education and my hope is to make a difference. I have lived in East Moline my entire life, worked for East Moline Schools until retiring, and raised my children here," said Joann Snelling. "I now have a grandson attending Glenview Middle School. The students, the staff, and the entire district are important to me. My hope as a Board of Education member is to give back to the community and most of all to the students in East Moline Schools."
Joann Snelling was appointed to the open seat vacated with the resignation of Kai Killam, who faithfully served the community as a member of the Board of Education for 12 years. "The Board of Education was extremely happy to see Joann express interest in the open seat. She has a heart for our students, the employees and the entire community," said Chris Van Speybroeck, Board President. Please join us in welcoming Joann back to the East Moline School District!
