Term Two Report Cards & Student-Led Conferences
On Wednesday, March 13th, parents will be able to access term two report cards electronically through the MyEd Portal. Your child's classroom teacher(s) will be hosting student-led conferences (i.e, open house, student-led) on Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12th.
Staff encourage all parents to attend the student-led conferences or classroom Open House planned for March 11th and 12th with their child. If you are not aware of your child's schedule for these dates, please contact your child's classroom teacher directly. Parents who cannot attend during this time are invited to contact their child's classroom teacher to set up an alternative opportunity to meet.
For this second term reporting period, all Kindergarten to Grade 7 classes will be dismissed at 2:00 pm in order to begin Student-Led Conferences. Some of the classes will be using an “open house” format and others will be using a “sign up” format. Teachers will be communicating with parents as to how their Student-Led Conferences will be held. Please note that there may be more than one student-led conference occurring at any given time.
As the name Student-Led Conferences implies, students will be taking the lead by sharing samples of their work, showing what they have learned, and discussing interests and future goals. The teacher will act as the facilitator and will be available to answer any questions.
Some of the benefits of Student-Led Conferences are that they:
- encourage students to accept personal responsibility for their academic performance;
- teach students the process of self-evaluation;
- encourage students to make choices about how to demonstrate their learning;
- facilitate the development of students' organizational and oral communication skills;
- provide an opportunity for the student to reflect on their own learning;
- provide an opportunity for the student to practice presentation skills;
- increase the student’s self-confidence;
- allow parents to see samples of their child’s work;
- give parents an opportunity to help their child set positive goals;
- give parents an opportunity to ask their child questions about their learning related to specific pieces of work;
- allow teachers an opportunity to see the interactions between parent and child;
- allow teachers an opportunity to talk with parents about assessment as it relates to specific pieces of work or performance tasks; and
- encourage students, parents, and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue.
Please Note: Dismissal will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 11th, and Tuesday, March 12th ONLY.
