Principal's Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families-
It is so nice to have had a full week of school and to be in-person with our wonderful students! I was excited to spend time in classes connecting with students and teachers while they were deeply engaged in the learning process.
In our Specials classes this week our students have had some wonderful extended learning opportunities. In PE, Mr. Goldsberry focused on developing great communication and collaboration skills while keeping students physically fit with some multi-element relay races. Ms. Wojniak in music class has been working with second graders to develop their musical ear AND fine motor skills by playing the xylophones. In our art classes, Ms. Gardner has been collaborating with our Mwebaza Club sponsor, Ms. Hansen to teach the students about Ugandan art. At Eagle Crest we are developing well rounded leaders in everything we do!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Warmly,
Amanda

Dean of Students Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
We have had a fantastic couple weeks of robotics at Eagle Crest!
Our after school competitive VEX IQ teams competed at their first tournament last weekend! They all did really well and have already redesigned their robots to be even better at their next tournament on January 29th at EAGLE CREST. All of you are welcome to come and watch Qualification Matches from 10:00am-12:00pm on January 29th to see what VEX IQ Robotics is all about.
Our 1st - 3rd Grade Wonder League Robotics teams have also been doing amazing work in the Garage with Mrs. Schwirtz! They have been programming their robots to draw shapes and compete and persevere through each of the challenges. They will be wrapping up their competition this week, and are so proud of everything they have learned so far!
Last but not least, Mrs. Dumler's 5th Grade Class has been working very hard in their Webot classes. All teams have completed their clawbots and they are now competing in games, programming their robots, and designing their own games. They will wrap up in the next two weeks and Mrs. Eskridge's class will start their Webot program next!
All of these programs are helping us develop students who are confident and resilient problem solvers!
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students

Preschool Registration - We still have spots available!
The purpose of Eagle Crest Elementary Preschool is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to develop and grow socially, physically and emotionally. Through the classroom experience, your child will develop independence "through intentional learning opportunities, an enriched classroom environment, and engagement with classroom teachers and peers that supports a new awareness of the world around them.” Your child will participate in many activities developed to enrich and enhance both small and large motor skills and basic readiness concepts (i.e. colors, numbers, counting, and shapes). Our curriculum is quite flexible and designed to stimulate each child to develop a positive self image through positive experiences and encouragement. With these experiences, we believe we will enable your child to become a lifelong learner and have a smooth entry to kindergarten.
New this year, we are exploring offering a Pre-K childcare “Wraparound” program for preschool students. This program would accommodate extended learning for students from 7:30am-5:30pm, so that students could have a full day experience here at Eagle Crest. This Wraparound programming is run by our partner, Community Schools, and would provide an integrated full day. Wraparound programming is a fee-based service with opportunities for financial assistance (CCAP). We are asking parents to complete the survey below and let us know your interest in the full day Wraparound program. Based on the level of interest from our parents, we will decide if we can start a Wraparound program this fall. Please complete the survey below to let us know your interest level. I will be in communication with families later this spring about our ability to provide Wraparound programming.

PTO Update
Dear Eagle Crest Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed winter break and the bonus snow day! We have our first restaurant fundraiser night of the new year on Thursday, January 20th at Culver's from 5-8pm, followed by a virtual PTO meeting at 6:30 p.m. During the meeting, our guidance counselor Angie Kerbel will be speaking to parents about mental health issues kids are facing right now. We will also be voting on some important expenditures for this semester. As a reminder, all parents, teachers and staff at Eagle Crest have a vote. Lastly, we are in communication with a few schools that had students impacted by the Marshall fire to find out how we can provide assistance. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks!
Have a good week,
Jenn Pensy, PTO president

Mwebaza Sister School Update
FINALLY! Students of all ages went back to school on January 10th. Many of the students had not been in school since the first Covid shut down March of 2020. Almost 2 years ago! The students at Mwebaza Annex and most other schools were not able to do remote learning due to lack of devices and other resources. Uganda had the longest school shut down of all the countries in the world. We are happy to share a few pictures of our partner school’s students returning to school. So fun to see a couple of them with Laps for Leadership shirts on! Let’s celebrate!
January Lunch and Specials Schedule
Our Music, PE, and Art classes are on a 3 day rotation. Each day we have school is either a Red, Gold, or Purple day. These colors are shared on our school lunch menu to help families plan ahead for necessary supplies like sneakers for PE.
