Welcome to South Elementary School of Communications!

MSD of Martinsville was one of 72 schools in Indiana to receive the 2023-2024 Competitive Science of Reading Grant. South Elementary and Paragon Elementary were recipients of this grant for the MSD of Martinsville. Teachers in grades K-3 are receiving training and will pilot a new reading series for second semester called Wit & Wisdom. The special education department is also receiving training on a new curriculum, 95 Rap. With this grant, we also have the opportunity to have a literacy coach in our building part of the week. We are excited about this opportunity for our staff and students.

The MSD of Martinsville will operate on an eLearning Day on April 8, 2024, and a Real Time Learning day on April 9, 2024, due to the solar eclipse. Please text to morgancoineclipse2024 to 69310 to receive information from the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency.

Chess Club meets on Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 for Elementary at Martinsville High School Cafeteria.

The South Robotics Team meets Thursdays 6-7:30PM at South.

To report an absence for your child, please call the office at

(765) 349-1486 by 9:00AM.

Doctor statements should be faxed to 765-349-5247 or given to the office.

Please make sure students arrive on time. The morning bell rings at 8:40 to start class. It rings at 10:40 on Wednesdays to start class.

Only adults listed on a student's emergency contacts will be able to check out a student from school. In addition, anyone picking up a child, will need identification to be able to check a student out of school. Students will be counted tardy if leaving school early.

No visitors will be allowed beyond the front foyer area unless they have an approved, scheduled meeting. We will not be having visitors for breakfast or lunch. All visitors must have a background check on file in the office before volunteering.

Free Breakfast for all students

Federal funding has been made available through school-wide Title I services to South Elementary for the purpose of providing students with extra support in reading and language arts. This extra support is availabe for all students at South Elementary. Classroom teachers, Title I teachers, and instructional assistants will provide assistance in reading, language arts, and math through small group and indivdual instruction as children demonstrate need for support. Please contact Julie Sullivan at 765-349-1486 Ext. 1654 with any questions about support your child may receive.

Want to get involved?!? Join South Elementary School PTO!!! The monthly meetings will be the first Tuesday of each month at 7PM. Our next meeting will be on January 9th at 7PM in the library. PTO has spirit wear available for purchase.

South Elementary staff and students collected $200 . All proceeds went to the Habitat for Humanity Build.

We are so proud of our South Dolphins and their families for helping us reach our goal for the food drive. We were able to donate 1,079 food items to the Gunner Burnam Food Pantry. Mrs. Lucas' class brought in the most items and earned a donut party.

Third graders visited WCBK and shared their holiday music performance on the radio.
