Mountain View Back to School Update

Please watch the video below for important updates regarding the opening of school.

- In order to distribute Chromebooks/chargers, copy of Google Apps/Chromebook contract, emergency work folders, agendas (which will contain a copy of the split schedule) and resources in advance of the first day of school, all students (virtual or in-seat)/parents will pick up items at Mountain View on Tuesday, August 25 according to the following schedule:

• 5th grade: 10:30 - 11:15 (Orchard Circle)
• 7th grade: 10:30 - 11:15 (Front Circle)
• 6th grade: 11:15 - 12:00 (Orchard Circle)
• 8th grade: 11:15 - 12:00 (Front Circle)

Students may come on their own to pick up their items or be driven by a parent. Face coverings must be worn.

- Student volunteers wanted: Mountain View is looking for several students in grades 5-8 who would be willing to join a "test" Google Classroom on August 25 (afternoon) to help the staff trial new technology features and updates. Please email Mrs. Toth if your child is willing to help. Additional details will be provided at that time.

- If you are planning to have your child participate in virtual instruction and have not already done so, please complete the Full Time Remote Learning Request Form as soon as possible, and no later than Monday, August 24. Also, a reminder that parents will be given the option to start the school year in-person and transition to virtual instruction any time between August 26 and September 4 (waiving the 15-day requirement). Those electing to do so must also complete the attached form when/if the decision is made to switch.

- New! To streamline communication and assistance for technology-related issues, students/parents must submit a help desk ticket via the following form: https://forms.gle/RxzJj1WTCurdhSSaA. This link will also be shared with your child via Google Classroom.

For those students opting for virtual instruction, please be reminded of the following:

• Students will follow the same schedule as their cohort (blue - a.m. or gold - p.m.). A copy of the split schedule will be provided in the items distributed on the 25th.
• Students will join their classes synchronously via Google Classroom and Google Meet. Your child has already been added to their Core and RA classrooms and only needs to accept each invitation. He/she will join the Meet on their HB/EEE Classroom at the start of each day (8:30 or 12:15). Students who are not logged on at this time will be marked absent.
• Students are required to use their district-issued device.
• Students are responsible for participating in class discussions, completing classwork, and submitting assignments as they would if they were in-person.
• Students and parents are expected to adhere to the expectations and responsibilities outlined in the Mendham Borough School District Google Apps for Education and Student Chromebook Contract.
• If your child is ill or unable to participate, you must contact Mrs. Austenberg to report him/her absent per the usual procedure.

Please click on the appropriate communication below for information from your child's Team Leader regarding school supplies. In addition to those listed, students are welcome to bring the following items:

• Water bottle (water fountains will not be in use)
• Hand sanitizer (optional and will be available in all classrooms and in hallways)
• Tissues (optional and will be available in all classrooms)
• Spare face covering
• Cell phone (must be off during school day)
• Ear buds/headphones

In addition, please send in a picture of your child (with a smile, if possible) - headshots or close to it - so teachers can hang them in the classroom.

Mountain View Middle School is pleased to welcome the following new staff members (in photograph from left to right):

- Mrs. Francie Byers, English Language Arts (grade 8)

Mrs. Byers's teaching experience dates back to 2000. She has taught in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire. Spanning grades 6 through 12, Mrs. Byers has served as an English teacher and Literacy coach. Most recently, she worked as a Reading Specialist at Bernardsville Middle School in the Somerset Hills School District.

- Ms. Carly Palmer, Special Education (grades 5-7)

Ms. Palmer is a recent graduate of Centenary University. She completed her internship at Allamuchy Township School where she was praised for flexibility, collaboration, and positive rapport with students, staff, and parents.

- 8/25: Distribution of Chromebooks, resources, etc... for all students

- 8/26: First day of school

- 8/28: Deadline to complete forms, documents, and contact information in Parent Portal

- 9/3: School picture day

- 9/7 - 9/8: School closed, Labor Day
