Gratitude
I cannot believe that we are already well on our way to the holiday season. Every year, I am grateful that I get to spend my days with the wonderful students and staff here at Ada-Borup Elementary. This year is no different. This year, however, has me reflecting a little more.
I cherish the smiles and excitement that the students have each day. I am thankful that we have had two months with students in the building. I am grateful that we are able to connect daily with our students that are distance learning. I am full of gratitude for the support that we are receiving from the community during this unprecedented time. Although we undoubtedly will continue to experience challenges, I am thankful that we get to do it together.
I wish you all a great Thanksgiving. Stay safe!

Distance Learning Expectations
A message from our school nurse, Tracy Johnson.
Close contact: someone you were around for 15 min or longer less than 6 feet apart in 24 hours.
(football players- huddle every play, huddle at half-time, and meet after game for game review.)
Quarantine: 14 days from the last time you were exposed to a positive person.
(If you need to quarantine- or a child does- if they are old enough- treat them like a positive and isolate them from the family---identify a "sick room" where they stay, wear a mask when they leave to go to the bathroom, grab a quick snack from the fridge, etc. They may go outside and enjoy fresh air and do things outside with family- social distancing of course.) If you follow these guidelines immediately after finding out about the close contact piece- you potentially eliminate the risk of the rest of the family being deemed close contacts- so even if they DO become a positive- the rest of the family will be able to continue life as usual, while the positive then isolates.
Isolation: removing oneself from direct contact with family. Identify a sick room where that person stays. They only come out when masked and for very short periods of time. No one in the family goes into the sick room. If positive wants to go outside- they can and should spend time doing activities- social distancing from everyone. When they leave the room MASK.
Incubation period: how long it can take to "infect" a person. COVID 19 has an incubation period of 2-14 days. The average onset of symptoms is 5-7 days after exposure. Some get sick day 3 (2 days of incubation- symptoms day 3). some get sick on day 12 (not very common but CAN happen).
Hence the 14 day quarantine or 10 day isolation from symptom onset or test date. Both get you past the point of infecting others. If you are an asymptomatic carrier- your body shut it down- so you shed the virus- but after a short (learning more about this as the research progresses) infectious period you are safe to be around. Since we don't know WHEN you became infectious- we treat the test date as day one of isolation.
Because we slowed the spread in Minnesota- we have been lucky to be able to use the research other countries did to help our COVID positives do better- people are still dying, people are still getting very ill- but not NEARLY as many people are dying because treatment improves with knowledge and research.

Attendance
In-person Learning (at school)
- Teachers will mark students absent if the students are not in the building.
- Absences will be marked unexcused if the office does not receive a written note within two days of the absence (an email will work).
Distance Learning (virtual)
- The expectation is that students will log into their Google Classroom and be “live” on Google Meets for instruction during the day.
- If your child is not able to attend live sessions, please contact the teacher for recordings and classroom expectations.
- All materials and course work must be completed in a timely manner.
- Paper materials must be returned, completed, in order to receive a grade and to be marked present for distance learning.
- In addition, attendance will be taken daily through contact with the classroom teacher.
